The Arsenal was started by Nicholas Flavin and his brother John in 1811 and soon began manufacturing pistols and rifles. In 1814, they opened a branch store in downtown Troy to sell their products. This store is still open today and provides support for local businesses. Throughout its history, Troy has been an important center for firearms manufacturing. It has been home to some of the most famous firearms manufacturers in the world such as Colt and Winchester. In1824, General James Kapp's brigade under General Andrew Johnson march through this town on their way to take Cairo, Illinois from Mexican forces opposing American expansion into Mexico territory

Troy was founded in 1836 by John A. Dixon and Jeremiah Putnam as a fur trader's settlement on the banks of the Arkansas River. The town was named for General James Hays who fought in the Mexican-American War and received an award from President Abraham Lincoln for heroism. In 1865, General Robert Ewell saved Troy from destruction when Confederate forces burned it to the ground during the Battle of Prairie Grove. In 1916, Homer Gentry dedicated what is now known as Park Avenue to commemorate his father, Representative Homer Gentry (R–MO). From humble beginnings as a farming community, Troy has become one of America's most diverse cities with over 100% African American residents according to2010 Census estimates. The city has also been home to some major businesses such as Monsanto and Boeing since its incorporation into St. Francois County in 1906; today those companies have operations throughout metro Kansas City and nearby suburbs including Overland Park and Shawnee Mission Junction
Troy was founded in 1813 by the Lewis and Clark Expedition as a way station on their journey from St. Louis to Oregon. In 1821, the town became an important fur trading post on the Missouri River. Troy lost its importance after the river was acquired by Congress in 1824 and it was not mentioned again until 1870 when it was destroyed by a fire.
