Troy, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settlers in Troy were John and Susannah Hinkle who arrived in 1819. They founded a cabin on the east side of the creek which they named "Hinkle's Cabin." The Hinkle family continued to live there until 1862 when they moved to what is now Dunkirk Township. In 1867, James Irvine bought land in present-day Troy from Pierre Bourque for $1,000. He built a gristmill and store there that became known as the Irvine Millinery School (now an art museum). In 1868, Irvine donated land for a public school system which became known as Troy High School. In 1891, citizens of Troy organized themselves into a town government under the authority of a board of trustees which included five members elected by popular vote. On January 5th of that year, Troy incorporated as an unincorporated community with a population of only 30 people. The first mayor was Wm Tabor and the first clerk was Denton Sutherlin. In 1902, residents voted to change their name to Troy after General Ulysses S Grant who had been visiting their city during his visit to Saint Louis University on July 6th that year. While many other places in America changed their names during this time such as Aberdeen in South Dakota and billingsboro in Kentucky – it was still unusual for an unincorporated community like Troy to do so specifically! During World War II (1941-1945), many members of the local military service served within Trojan Heights Naval Air Station located just outside town limits where they took up various posts including manufacturing aircraft parts and flying Spitfires; some even rose to positions such as commander or squadron leader! After the war ended (1945), most soldiers returned home but some remained behind on Okinawa where they helped form Japan’s new Defense Force!

On May 6, 1907, it became an urban township and on January 1 of that year it attained full city status with the addition of all of the annexed communities of Hinton City (1907), White Sulphur Springs (1908), and Riverview Heights (1910). The original boundaries of Troy were just east of present-day Dellwood Drive and south of both I-70 and U.S. Route 66; however these boundaries have since been adjusted to their current locations by various annexation agreements between the city and its surrounding townships.
