Town and Country, Missouri is a small town in east-central Missouri. The population was 1,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was laid out in 1837 by Captain James K. Polk from Point Lookout, Michigan Territory as a place for white farmers to raise crops and build homes. The name "Town & Country" was given to it by General George Armstrong Custer when he camped there with his cavalry unit during the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1890. The first post office opened in 1838 and remained open until it closed on July 24, 1909. The first store opened in 1839 and continued to operate until it closed in 1951. Moses Ransom founded Ransom's Landing located on the north side of Town Creek near what is now Old Stage Road. This landing served as a landing point for boat trips upstream from where Town Creek flows into the Illinois River. Ransom's Landing was destroyed by an earthquake on February 14, 1906 which caused extensive damage to both property and people inside the area; however, all structures remaining today were built before that date according to historical records. The town had two schools – one serving students up through high school and one serving students through college level courses – until they were discontinued in 1955 due to budget cuts made by then-Governor Joplin following World War II hysteria which led many Americans flee their homes because of rationing problems resulting from war production shortages across most industries nationwide at that time including agriculture specifically; this led directly to a decline in population rates throughout much of eastern Missouri such as Town &Country over time primarily due to factors such as economic stagnation downplaying migration opportunities while overall rural life expectancy slowly decreasing due largely to advances enjoyed by other parts of the United States during that same period making work available outside traditional farm communities more easily accessible while simultaneously suppressing costliest forms of entertainment like music concerts or theater productions that often drew large crowds outdoors onto Main Street) resulting ultimately not just within individual towns but also entire counties throughout much of America during those years due although fortunately not always uniformly so (See below) as various initiatives taken since then have partially offset some if not most negative consequences attendant thereto). As Grant's troops reached Richmond, they discovered that many of their comrades had been killed or captured without their weapons being taken into account; as a result of this discovery Grant decided to order all his cavalrymen back to camp rather than fight possible battle against Lee's forces
Town andCountry is a small town in Sedgwick County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,671 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the merger of "town" and "country". It was founded in 1827 as a station on the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1848, it became the seat of government for Sedgwick County. The town has two churches: First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. There are also several schools including North High School and Town Middle School. There is also a post office which opened in 1827.
In the early 1800s, Town And Country was a small farming community on the north side of Missouri. The area was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants who were looking for land to farm. By 1825, the town had a population of around 100 people. In 1827, the first courthouse and jail were built in Town And Country. The town's main industry until the mid-19th century was agriculture. However, after new technologies came along such as railroads and cotton plantations, Town And Country began to experience rapid growth. In 1852, the first school in Town AndCountry opened up and helped spur development in the community. In 1861, during the American Civil War, soldiers from nearby Camp Douglas barracks set fire to much of Town AndCountry while trying to flee. This event is considered one of Missouri's most notorious crimes. After the war ended, many farmers moved out of town and it declined rapidly in importance until it disappeared completely by 1940s. Today, much of what is left oftown and country is a preserved agricultural landscape with a few buildings remaining from earlier years
