Saint Peters, Missouri is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was 7,863 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County metropolitan area. The Saint Peters community began as a Methodist Episcopal church on a tract of land near what is now Interstate 65 and Bloomfield Road in 1837. The first pastor was Rev. James Hogg, who preached from an old sawmill that had been abandoned for lack of water and other problems. In 1840, following German immigrants' arrival, Reverend John Wiegand organized a mission station east of town for residents of eastern Jackson County; this congregation became known as Trinity Lutheran Church (now First United Methodist). In 1849, when Missouri became an American state, St Peters became its capital and the only city in Jackson County with its own charter (the other two being Independence and Kansas City). Much activity took place here during the 1850s including: construction of roads (Missouri River Bridge connecting Saint Peters to Springfield), opening of local stores and restaurants by merchants such as Averill Harriman (founder of Standard Oil), establishment of schools such as Central High School and Southwest Academy (now Wichita Community College) through gifts or donations from individuals or churches involved with education in those days; during this time many Germans also arrived to work on railroad projects related to their new country's development In 1860 St Peters hosted the first international fair in America which attracted more than 10,000 people from all over North America In 1865 Union General William Tecumseh Sherman occupied Saint Peters after his march into Arkansas along I-40 killed many South Carolinians living there On October 16th 1870 a tornado struck downtown Saint Peters leaving up to $10 million worth damage On April Fool's Day 1871 General Flood destroyed most businesses within blocks radius around downtownSaintPeters making it one year before business again started booming thanks to investments made by then Mayor George Washington Yates

On March 4, 1821, Missouri became the 24th state in the United States of America. The area now known as St. Peters was part of the Shawnee Territory until it was purchased from them by the United States in 1818.
