St. Peters, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of north-central Missouri. The population was 1,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was laid out in 1837 by a group of Methodist missionaries led by Rev. George Crouch. The original name for the town (then called West Point) was chosen for its location on an overlook overlooking the Arkansas River at what is now known as Stroudsburg Junction. When West Point became too large to accommodate all of the missionaries and their families, they founded another settlement nearby and named it after Bishop John Woolsey of Memphis, Tennessee who had recently arrived in Missouri to help lead the church there (Woolsey's hometown lay just east of where St Peters now stands). This second settlement lasted until 1848 when everything within easy walking distance of one another burned down due to Indian warfare between American settlers and Native Americans, leaving only about 60 people living in what is today downtown St Peters; most were farmers or fishermen who farmed along the riverbank or hunted game near present day Blue Springs and other villages on either side of the river. In 1853, Amos Chandler bought 640 acres (253 hectares) northeast of downtown from James Kinsley for $1 million dollars which he used as his farmstead until his death in 1907. In 1865, local clergyman Drury erected a wooden church with additions made over time including a belfry and three octagon-shaped towers that can still be seen today outside Ofallon Chapel on Main Street (). After Drury's death in 1896, parishioners built additional churches including Our Lady Helping Hand Church (), Immaculate Conception Church (), Resurrection Parish () and Holy Name Parish (); also located adjacent to each other on Main Street are four public schools - Central High School (), East Side High School (), North Side High School () and Southside Intermediate School (). Butchanden Field Airport opened up just northwest of Downtown St Peters when plans were developed for it in 1956 which would later become Mid-Missouri Regional Airport . The airport served mostly as a landing strip for private planes until 1969 when it became an air force station providing basing services for jets departed from Saint Louis Municipal Airport . Downtown business grew slowly until around 1990 when healthy competition from neighboring Columbia began driving prices down while quality increased; this trend continued through much OFallon Township growth during ensuing years culminating with incorporation into City Limits Park District in 2002 The city limits park district includes portions of both sides of Main Street running parallel to it - making crosswalk across street one possible interpretation because streets "end" here rather than continuing straight ahead like most municipalities do; also note that major thoroughfares such as 3rd Avenue Business Streets , University Avenue Business Streets & Union Pacific Road are all accessed via/from within/around City Limits Park District boundaries! Residents born between 1945-1964 make up almost half (~55%) or more (%) while those born 1965+ make up slightly less than quarter (~25%) but rise rapidly thereafter... Median household income ranges from just over $50K ($54K avg) among individuals Age 25+, lower rates exist around $30K-$35K (+9%),$40K-$45K (+11%),$50K-$60K($14%),$70LDB($21%)& above... Unemployment rates range from 2% among those 25+.5%-plus (& below), 5%, 7%, 8%. Median rent prices range from about $850/$1M ($897Avg), higher rates exist around $1500/$2M (& above). There are significant racial disparities especially evident towards Whites (>75%); Black residents account for almost two thirds (~68%) or more (.77 share) total employment rate compared with Hispanics (-15%); single women earn almost eight tenths ($878 avg) wages versus married women’s median earnings which hover around $$58k/$66k (#34th percentile nationally)...
