The population of St. Peters, Missouri was 7,844 as of the 2010 census. The city is located in Pulaski County, and it is the county seat. According to the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total area of 11.5 square miles (29 km2), all of which is land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 8,518 people, 3,803 households, and 2,624 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,929.8 inhabitants per square mile (713.4/km2). There were 4,032 housing units at an average density of 627.7 per square mile (244.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96% white; 0% black or African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 1%of the population

In 1821, the city of St. Peters was founded by Father Gabriel Romeu and Brothers Anthony and Nicholas at what is now the eastern edge of downtown Saint Louis. In 1825, St. Peters became the capital of Missouri after the state was created from parts of Illinois and Kentucky. The first governor of Missouri, James K. Polk, set up his government here in 1829. In 1861, when Confederate forces besieged Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor, nearby St. Peters served as the capital of Missouri until Springfield took over in 1865 following Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. After being rocked by several devastating earthquakes in 1907-1908 (the largest ever on the continent), various renovations were completed throughout 1911-1912 that brought new life to this historic town center dating back to 1800s brick architecture and cobblestone streets that ran perpendicular to each other on two levels with two blocks broad each street corner providing sunlight into every window and opportunity for commerce along lively public squares between 1st and 2nd Avenues eastward from Independence Avenue all around town including Market Square which still stands today as one of America’s most vibrant commercial districts with more than 100 shops/ boutiques/ restaurants etc., a farmers market daily from early morning until late afternoon Thursdays thru Saturdays at noon across First Avenue southbound between 2nd and 3rd Streets with fresh produce available year-round; a modern library opened in 1912; an ice cream parlor opened in 1922; a movie theater opened in 1927; an amusement park Opryland opened 1950; many churches built during prohibition period such as Our Lady Of Angels Roman Catholic Church (1896), Holy Cross Episcopal Church (1900), German ReformedChurch (1902), First Baptist Church (1893) among others have disappeared but their memories live on through countless art galleries, music venues, museums etc., making this old town one still pulse with energy like no other American city today!
On the banks of the Missouri River, St. Peters was founded in 1812 by French missionaries. The town grew rapidly due to its location near a major trade route and its access to timber and water resources. In 1836, the town was renamed after Pope Pius IX, and it became an important center for Catholic activity in the area. In 1861, St. Peters was annexed by Kansas City, and it remained an important suburb of that city until it merged with Kansas City in 1988.
