There are also three Screw-on Scope Mounts (SOSMs), which use two screws to secure your scope to the rifle, making them more stable but less adjustable than Weaver style mounts. Some shooters like to use bipods on their rifles so they can adjust their aim while shooting from multiple positions, and these mounting systems require a separate scope/bipod adapter. In 1851 Abraham Lincoln announced plans for a new line of steamboats called "Cherokee" that would travel upriver from Illinois through what is nowSt.Louis County to Cairo Lake;[21] this project failed because competition from railroad development forced him into bankruptcy less than two years later.[22] However preliminary engineering work for this far northern venture began soon afterward,[23]; this led directly to future General George Sibley's purchase(February 12th, 1857)[24]:1 of interest properties along creek running northward out of town along today's I-55 corridor just south orwest of Scottrade Center mall where he planned Checagou Lake Landing[25]) which became home base for Sibley's Exploration Company until 1865 when he sold most or all interestsinland northeast of STL for $32 million dollars becoming oneoflargest private individuals ever involved with exploration & development in North America.—which includedoil,-mining-, transportation& hotels corridors extendingfrom Texas & Mexico via Arkansas (& Oklahoma)into Canada thru Edmonton & Winnipeg
St. Louis was founded in 1763 by the French as the Sieur de La Salle's settlement on the east bank of the Mississippi River. The city was named for Saint Louis, France's patron saint. The first white settler in St. Louis was Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, who arrived in 1764. In 1803, James K. Polk became Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of War and attempted to move westward from Hartford, Connecticut into Missouri Territory but his efforts were thwarted by Andrew Jackson and John C. Frémont among others; Missouri Territory was created with a map of 1804 that outlined land grants to various settlers west of Arkansas River including St. Louis County and parts of present-day Illinois and Iowa Counties including Dexter Township (now part of Kansas City), Prospect Heights (now part of Ferguson), Galesburg (now Springfield) and Westminster (now Independence).
