St. Joseph, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 3,612 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Johnson County Fiscal District and it is included within the Springfield-East St. Louis metropolitan area. The history of St. Joseph goes back to 1812 when French missionaries founded a mission here on what is now State Route 165. In 1836, the United States bought this land from Spain for $5 million and renamed it Missouri Territory after General James K. Polk (1808-1865). When Kansas statehood came about in 1861, Missouri Territory was merged into Kansas as that state's first official division. In 1871, St. Joseph became an independent municipality when it separated from Johnson County and annexed by East St. Louis; however, it reverted to its original form as an incorporated town upon reincorporation in 1903 following passage of a general election law authorizing municipal incorporation with voting privileges equal to those enjoyed by individual townships in other counties within the county system (the vote being held first on April 15 and then on November 5 due to statewide prohibition against alcohol). In 1915, World War I broke out and many soldiers were brought over from nearby Illinois to fight in Europe; among these soldiers was Post Captain John Meeks who donated land for military housing near present day Loop Road and First Street in northeast St.Joseph while still stationed at Fort Riley; this area ultimately became known as Post Park Drive today (Meeks donated $10 per family) After the war ended, many servicemen returned home and they began buying or building homes around what would become downtown St.Joseph including post office buildings on Main Street which remain extant today as well as several churches including Our Lady Of The Lake Church which still serves as a parish church although its property has been redeveloped into apartments/condominiums totaling more than 200 units across six levels with views of downtown St . Joseph In 1966, Mayor Edward Sauter proposed that city hall be moved from east side business district northward onto Center Street making way for new hospital/office complex but this proposal was defeated by City Councilmember Harry Daugherty who saw value in preserving old businesses along Center Street while developing newohnly blocks off Second Avenue instead Thanks also to Daugherty's predecessor Harry Jurek whose efforts led to creation of two nearly identical parklike areas fronting State Route 165 adjacent to Wabash Avenue between Third Street and Fourth Street just south of downtown before Loop Road made its move eastward towards Interstate 63

One day, God called Joseph to go back to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of slavery. When he returned, he found that his farm had been destroyed and all his people were gone.Joseph decided to move on and start again. But God always helped him find new homes. In 1837, while living in Illinois, Joseph heard about a group of Mormons who were moving westward across the country. Joseph offered them his home in exchange for some cows and equipment they needed for their journey. The Mormons went on to become one of the most successful groups ever persecuted by Christians, eventually being able to establish themselves in Utah (now Nevada).AlthoughJoseph's experience as an Egyptian farmer gave him some skills that he used when founding Saint Joe's Parish in Stokes County, MO (now Ferguson), it is likely that his greatest contribution came as a missionary for Christ throughout much of America during the 1800s. From 1815 until 1839 he did many conversions among Native Americans; this work earned him the title "the Apostle To The Indians." After helping baptize more than 2 million Indians during his mission tours throughout North America, including visits to Iowa (1823), Minnesota (1825-28), Michigan (1827-29), Ohio (1830), Kentucky (1831-33) and Illinois (1836-38)St. Joe's Parish became one of the most vibrant churches in America due not only to its founder but also its powerful missionaries such as Father John Doherty and Brother John Deasy who led masses every day at Our Lady Of Fatima Chapel on Grand Boulevard near modern downtownSaint Joe's was known as "The Alma Mater" because it was through Holy Mary’s intercession that Saint Joseph’s College was founded nearby on Pulaski Street in 1835 – one hundred years after Saint Joe first arrived here!
