Joseph quickly gathered together some friends and family members who could help him with what would be a long journey to improve the lives of those living in St. Joseph, Mo. They started by preaching to the locals about how they should live according to the Standards set by The Lord. They also began organizing local prayer meetings and fasting petitions for change. In time, they realized that their efforts were working and that there was need for more missionaries to come into St. Joseph. They decided to start their own church, called TheChurch at Saint Joseph, Mo., which soon had over 1,000 followers worldwide. Today, TheChurch at Saint Joseph is one of the largest Protestant denominations in North America with over 18 million members around the world. It is also one of few churches that has been continuously active since its founding 100 years ago!

Pope Pius IX called for an overhaul of Christianity in America following his visit to the United States in 1864. This new Church saw itself as both missionary and scientific orientated, emphasizing modernity over traditional values in order to win converts across denominational lines. As part of this effort, Pope Pius XII placed emphasis on education and charitable work among underprivileged populations including the poor and working class people. Despite these efforts, progress was slow due to opposition from Protestant denominations along with government inertia at a time when technological innovation seemed possible but had not yet arrived. In 1957, however, Pope Paul VI appointed Archbishop Charles Chaput as the first bishop of St Louis after leading a review process that selected him over more qualified candidates due to his deep understanding of Catholicism in America (Cavanaugh had died two years earlier). The appointment created fresh impetus for change within Catholic circles within America; eventually leading to changes such as decentralization and opening up church finances so that Holy See could support more ambitious projects worldwide instead of only funding local parishes). The first St. Joseph, Missouri town was founded in 1819 by a group of French Catholics who were displaced from the nearby city of Independence. The town was named for Saint Joseph, the patron saint of France. By 1830, the population of St. Joseph had grown to over 1,000 residents and it became an important transportation hub in the area due to its location on the New Madrid Fault Line. In 1838, two years after Missouri's admission into the Union as a U.S. state, St. Joseph became a county seat and continued to grow in popularity until it lost its importance in 1870 when Jefferson City took over as the state capital.
