The first gun magazines in St. Joseph, Missouri were established in 1837 by Captain George Rogers Clark and his men during the Mexican-American War. The Captain supplied guns to the militia and sold magazine subscriptions to civilians. In 1841, Major General James Hays ordered all arsenals in Missouri closed because of financial problems. Captain Clark reintroduced magazine subscriptions in 1846 as a way for civilians to be able to buy weapons without having to go through military channels.

He founded hospitals and orphanages as well as providing religious instruction for children not exposed to traditional Christianity during their formative years. Joseph's efforts earned him numerous awards and honors throughout his life; he was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1912 and named one of the twelve Apostles by Jesus Christ Himself. St. Joseph's statue stands tall outside the Basilica di San Pietro (the Vatican) where he was born and raised; visitors are urged to go inside for a visit if they can get away from it all on vacation!

St. Joseph, Missouri is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Missouri. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is one of five towns in Johnson County and it is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. As early as 1802, St. Joseph had a Catholic mission station established by Father Hennepin. In 1824, St.Joseph's parish was created from parts of three other churches: First Baptist Church in Florissant and Second Presbyterian Church in Olivette and Third Methodist Church in Carthage. A new church was built on Main Street in 1835-36 by Revs John Wirthlin and Valentine McNamara Jr., both natives of Ireland who had come to America to serve as missionaries for the Irish Mission Society. In 1861, when Johnson County was organized, St.Joseph became its first county seat and remained so until 1890 when Carthage became its new seat due to the consolidation of Johnson County with Douglas County (now Kansas). Pope Pius IX designated Saint Joseph as an international daylong festival center on October 13th 1870 through his Bull "Pascendi Anni" No 394 (Decree), which sanctioned religious exercises throughout Christendom during that year's Easter season......... In 1889–90, because Carthage had become too populous for St Joseph’s mayoral office space and because there wasn’t enough money available for streetlights around town—an important concern during a time when electric lights were coming into use all over America—the citizens formed a committees to look into ways to improve things...... At first these committees met only sporadically; but after some years they got organized into what we now know as the City Planning Commission....... The committee began issuing report cards identifying problems with various aspects of town life..... Eventually they evolved into what we now know as zoning regulations ...... When someone wanted something done within city limits but didn’t have authority or permission from either commission members—for example, if they wanted to build a garage on their property without getting prior approval from either commission member—-they would go speak with Mayor McNamara....... Occasionally disagreements arose between commissioners about how much control each individual commissioner should have over different areas...... But eventually through compromise everyone got along well....... From then on though most decisions made about things within city limits were made by mayor/commission members rather than by commissions...... The original plat for St Joe's Parish went up for sale on October 20th 1906 lot # 321 By Request Of Bishop Walsh......... The original building that stands today on Main Street was erected shortly thereafter................... On April 15th 1912 President William McKinley signed an executive order ordering all Catholic parishes throughout America “to erect similar structures theretofore unaided by any form or type of credit or subsidy whatever………..Catholic Churches are hereby directed not only to maintain their own pastors and preach their own doctrines but also widows and orphans shall be supported outofpocket until such time as their case can be properly considered”.......... This order paved way for many more Catholics coming to live in Saint Joe............................................. On November 25th 1929 Pope Pius XI issued "Amoris Laetitia", which allowed Catholics who were baptized outside of Rome under one year old age – even if their parents were still alive – to be re-baptized back into Christianity.... As a result many people who had originally been baptized Catholic priests decided against continuing this practice.......................... In 1948 Pope Paul VI ordered all baptisms performed at local churches no matter what.................................................. On July 6th 1951 Holy Cross Cathedral consecrated first female deaconess...................On January 2nd 1965 voters approved the incorporation ordinanceof Saint Joe................. In 1990 Hurricane Allen destroyed much downtown including both temple & church.............................Over 400 businesses lost their operations due to damage caused by that storm.........................Today Saint Joe has regained most if not all its pre-Hurricane damage............................Due partly to World War II military activity associated with nearby Fort Donelson National Monument & Springfield Armory complex (& surrounding farms) nearly every inch of land within municipal boundaries has been developed..................Since 2000SaintJoe has seen significant development in terms OF art galleries,. wineries,,restaurants&residences
St. Joseph was a small settlement in Clay County, Missouri, United States growing up around the Roman Catholic church and school. By 1819, the population of St. Joseph had grown to about 100 people, and by 1821 it had reached 350 people. The first post office in St. Joseph was established in 1825. In 1840, when Missouri became a state, St. Joseph became the capital of that state.
