The city of St. Charles, Missouri is located in the eastern half of the state of Missouri. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1837 by General James K. Polk and his wife, Julia Child. It is named after Saint Charles Borromeo, a Catholic saint who has been celebrated as an author, musician and traveler since the 16th century. St. Charles became a town in 1868 and from then until 1930 it was a village. In 1830, when St.Charles was founded, there were just six families living there; by 1860 there were over 120 people living in the city limits alone! Today, St.Charles is home to many businesses and professional organizations including: American Legion Post #1 (founded 1865), United Methodist Church (founded 1863), University of Missouri-Kansas City (founded 1907),Saint Louis University ( founded 1903) and Kansas City Federal Credit Union (established 1932). There are also several parks within walking distance of the downtown area which include: Ball Park Park on Main Street between Jackson Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, Caley Field on Downing Street between WestMain Road and Jefferson Boulevard, Hartman Park on Third Street between Woodruff Avenue and Lindbergh Boulevard/19th Avenue South, Butler Park on Delaware Avenue between Hickory Lane and Elmwood Drive/Market Alley NW., Queen's Garden on Mockingbird Lane south of I-435W., as well as several golf courses located within easy driving distance like Midway Golf Course off I-435W., White Sands Country Club off US 24 near Topeka Hills Parkway/, CenturyLink Live! stadium just outside Downtown St. Charles proper or nearby for fans attending events inside or outside the stadium such as Chiefs vs Raiders game played at Arrowhead Stadium this past season!

St. Charles, Missouri is a city in the Kansas City metropolitan area, United States. The population was 927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saint Louis–Saint Peters Combined Statistical Area. The nearby city of Kansas City served as its capital from 1854 until it was moved to Topeka in 1907. The first European settlers in what is now St. Charles were French Huguenots who arrived in 1764 and built a small cabin on an abandoned lot near present-day Topeka Boulevard and Downing Road. In 1785, surveyors named this place "Ville de la Cité Française" (City of France), after the Treaty of Paris ceded Louisiana to France as compensation for the French and Indian War fought between Britain and France. In 1819, James Kintzberg surveyed land east of present-day St. Charles on which he erected a small tavern called "Le Hermitage". This location became known as Kintzberg's Corners because it lay on one corner of alluvial soil deposited by five floods that year while nearby Prairie du Chien was being developed by Isaac Brockway and others. When Chartered Land Company president John Sully acquired additional lots adjacent to Kintzberg's tavern site in 1824, he renamed it "St. Charles". The town started off as a small settlement with about 20 residents but grew rapidly because of its strategic location: on both sides of I-435 (now US-36) just west of downtown Saint Louis; next door to two major railroads; just south of MO State Route 508 which connected Saint Louis with Independence, MO; across I-435 from Rock Hill; and close to several religious institutions such as Methodism Church (founded in1795), Catholic Church (founded 1796), Presbyterian Church (1809), Baptist Church (1810). During the years since its founding, St.Charles has experienced many changes: annexation by other municipalities; construction or expansion of numerous businesses including hospitals, factories, schools, churches and hotels; significant growth within itself due to migrants coming during various periods - primarily Germans during World War I when many jobs went away due to restrictions placed upon German Americans – along with waves OF natural disasters such as fires that destroyed homes over time
The city of St. Charles was founded in 1837 by wealthy fur traders, and soon became a major center for the fur trade. The city experienced significant growth during the 1850s and 1860s, thanks to its location on the Missouri River, its access to goods from Illinois and Wisconsin, and its system of postal service. In 1871, St. Charles became an incorporated city with a population of around 60,000 people. The city continued to grow through the late 1800s and into the first decade of the 1900s as it developed as a commercial center and manufacturing town. By World War I, St.Charles had become one of the largest cities in Missouri, with a population over 200,000 people. However, following World War I and increased economic stress from wartime Germany and Italy,[1] St.Charles struggled during the1920s and 1930s as it lost much of its industry and population due to Rust Belt migration.[2] However, between World Wars II and 1960[3], St.Charles experienced significant growth as it became an important cultural center for Midwest America[4], hosting many large-scale events such as rock concerts[5], business meetings,[6] federal government hearings,[7] movie premieres,[8][9][10], academic conferences,[11][12][13][14],[15] etc., while also becoming home to numerous small businesses (eighty percent were small retailers) that thrived in an increasingly competitive economy.[16] During this time period, too, there wassignificant renovation/updates initiated at various downtown buildings including Main Street's original brick building which served as both a municipal courthouse[17](18)[19][20](21), local library (opened in 1922), new hospitals ( opened in 1945),[22],[23]-and more recently at City Hall which saw extensive use as both office space(24)[25],[26]-and later housing (27).[28]. In recent years however some older downtown buildings have seen indications that they may be unable or unwilling to meet current seismic requirements for future redevelopment; including those located on Market Street near Second Avenue where two buildings collapsed in 2009 after being overloaded with weight from recent expansion plans; followed shortly thereafter by another collapse causing widespread damage on that block which occurred just weeks later; finally leading to calls for Mayor Sly James' resignation amid public outcry over what seemed like lax safety measures being put into place by City Hall leadership following these collapses
