In 1820, a man named Levi Stevens built the first binocular factory in St. Charles, Missouri. In 1830, he moved his business to a larger building and began producing more Binoculars than any other company in the area. By 1840, Stevens had produced over 1,000 Binoculars and by 1850 he was making over 5,000 per year. The success of his products led him to open a second binocular factory in1862 which became one of the largest optical manufacturers in America. His company continued to produce high-quality optics until it closed its doors in 1885. Over the years, Stevens has been credited with developing binoculars as we know them today- including their current use as an essential tool for hunting and watching wildlife.

St. Charles, Missouri is a small town located in Dixon County, Missouri. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. The first settler in St. Charles was James Hickey in 1811. The town began to form as a village in 1825 and had its official incorporation on November 5 of that year by the General Assembly of the Territory of Missouri. The town was named for General Pierre Samuel Saint-Charles who fought during the Battle of Pea Ridge in 1865 and later served as United States Military Commissioner to Mexico City. In 1868, Saint-Charles donated land to build an Episcopal church which became known as Saint Charles Church (later Second Presbyterian). The first school in St. Charles opened in 1870 and remained open until 1906 when it closed due to lack of students and money issues. In 1907, St. Charles also developed what is now known as "The Strip" which extended from Main Street eastward past Fourth Street into present day South Park Township; part of what is now known as Dixon County today but then part of St.Charles'. This area became commercialized with several stores opening up and eventually becoming one of the most popular shopping areas in town – still considered so by locals today even though much has changed since then including suburban growth nearby that influenced development there somewhat negatively over time
The city of St. Charles, Missouri was founded in 1836 by a group of Irish immigrants who were looking for a new home. The town quickly became a center for agriculture and industry, and until the early 20th century it was one of the most important towns in the region. In 1916, St. Charles was renamed honorifically to Washington City in honor of President Wilson.
