St. Ann is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Ann" comes from Saint Ann, the mother of Jesus Christ. The first settlers in what is now St. Ann were Frenchmen who arrived in 1765 and named it Château de la Roche-Guyon after their king's castle in France. They also founded a small Indian settlement to the east of what is now St. Ann on a point overlooking the river where they built a stockade and planted crops that yielded some 375 acres (190 hectares) of tobacco until it was destroyed by floods in 1814. In 1819 an act of Congress set aside 640 acres (250 hectares) along both banks of the river for agricultural use with township status given to those who developed it and erected nine buildings including a courthouse and schoolhouse near present day Annville Road and Highway 9A north of town center which served as county seat until 1870 when Hannibal replaced Springfield as county seat under state law. In 1827 Missouri became one country with its own government so local elections were no longer held there but continued elsewhere within Jackson County until 1907 when all former counties were consolidated into one new Jackson County administrative area known today as Springfield Township/Missouri City Mayoralty/Jackson County Government Center District #2 which included much of what is now St. Ann except for about 7 miles (13 kilometers) south along present day Hwy 9A to where that highway ends at I-64 just outside the city limits of Independence MO When Independence MO incorporated as an unincorporated community in 1909 she had 1,800 residents although by 1920 her population had grown to 5,000 due largely to waves of immigrants arriving during World War I After World War II many people left for better jobs or found themselves priced out by housing developments built around Independence MO while other parts of Jackson County grew rapidly including Stann

St. Ann, Missouri is a town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,604 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saint Louis metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now St. Ann were James and his family who arrived from Kentucky in 1819. They founded a small community on the east side of the river where they built a log cabin and raised crops and hogs until 1830 when James died suddenly of an illness unknown to him. His wife Anna erected a small cross on their farmstead for their local Christian worshippers to visit during services conducted by one or more laymen before going home to tend to their farms or build larger homes elsewhere in the county or throughout Illinois (James had emigrated as part of Abraham Lincoln's migration from Kentucky). In 1836, Captain John Smith purchased 160 acres (68 hectares) of land west of present-day St. Ann from David Rice and began developing it into what would become known as Smith Farms (later renamed Riceville). He named his new community after his patron saint, Saint Anne (or Aunty), which he believed would provide economic stability and promote social integration among its inhabitants; this plan was successful enough that he continued to make improvements to the settlement over time including erecting churches and creating roads and other infrastructure necessary for commerce and transportation within its boundaries; these developments led eventually to its incorporation as a village in 1855 with 1,409 residents/townsfolk attached thereto under General Orders No. 7 & 8 issued by Mayor Thomas Paulding%. St. Ann was founded in the early 1700s by French settlers, who named it for the mother of Jesus, St. Anne. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1815, the United States built a fort at nearby Jefferson City to protect St. Ann from Indian attacks, and the town became an important military post. The fort closed in 1827 and the town fell into decline until it regained its former prosperity during World War II when munitions manufacturers moved to St. Ann from other parts of Missouri.
