In 1949, Reverend Drayson Hixon became the first African American pastor of St. Ann’s church after years of theological debate within the denomination over whether or not black pastors could serve openly within Methodist Episcopal Churches across America. Reverend Hixon helped open doors for black ministers throughout Missouri and countrywide until his death in 1996 at age 90 years old.

St. Ann is a small town in St. Joseph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the German Settlement of Annauen and its original location on the banks of the Missouri River. The first people to settle in what is now St. Ann were Germans who arrived in 1795 as part of a group known as "The New Americans." They built a log cabin on the riverbank and named itAnnauen after their place of origin, Germany. In 1811, General James K. Polk sent an army through Missouri to invade Texas and Mexican President José Joaquín de Herrera y Zamora responded by declaring war on America. When Mexico discovered America's intention to invade her country, they mobilization their forces and invaded Missouri in August 1811 under General Antonio López de Santa Anna with 1,500 men but were defeated at Battle of Black Jack just outside St. Louis by American forces led by William Hull and Zachariah Chandler with 3 companies of cavalry under Captain John Browning including future Ulysses S Grant who joined them later that year when he was appointed colonel of Company A1st Kansas Volunteers (now called American Civil War Veterans). It was not until October 25th when Santa Anna's army reached Stroudsburg which located about two miles due east of present-dayStannardale where he had his headquarters before moving on towards Springfield where he surrendered on October 29th to US Major Robert Ewell Johnston without any fight or resistance after being surrounded and taken prisoner at knifepoint while his entire force lay dead around him except for 10 men who made a daring escape back into Mexico City that same day with only $5 worth of cattle they took with them! In 1814 Governor James K . Polk ordered Colonel Nathaniel Banks to open up trade along the Platte River between Iowa Falls northwestwardly via Topeka and Council Bluffs southwestwardly via Council Bluffs so that Illinois farmers could get their goods delivered heretofore unprocurable east side counties such as Boone & Crockett which were all recently acquired by Missouri from Arkansas Territory lands ceded during that time frame following the slave trading days ended in Union victory over Confederate slavery! This also opened up new markets for Saint Marys products such as pork jerky, bacon, flourishes etc., thus providing much needed economic sustenance for many families throughout this area! During the early 1800s various entrepreneurs set up businesses such as gristmills, sawmills, blacksmiths etc., thereby contributing greatly to local economy which helped support schools like Annan Academy founded in 1796 followed by Saline Female Seminary established in 1800; both schools remained active until 1915 when they merged into Saline University! Churches like All Saints Episcopal Church (founded 1793) Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church (1815), First Presbyterian Church (1821), Methodist Episcopal Church (1827), Baptist church (1830), Evangelical Lutheran church(1832), National Guard Armory building erected 1865; finally Saint Annes Episcopal church built 1903!! Altogether there are over 100 heritage buildings still standing today!!!!!
St. Ann was founded by the St. Josephs in 1812 as a mission station on the banks of the Missouri River. The town grew up around the Mission Chapel, which served as the center of religious activity for Saints Ann and Fayetteville until 1836 when they moved to Nauvoo. In 1846, following polygamy accusations against Joseph Smith, Saint Ann became an apostate community and voted to secede from Nauvoo. The town quickly faded away and only a few buildings remain today.
