St. Ann is a small town in St. Joseph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The name "Ann" comes from Saint Anne, who is also the patron saint of Ontario and Canada. The first settler in what would become St. Ann was Nicholas de Montfort in 1814. He built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the village and named it after his mother, which he did not live to see grow into a thriving community with its own church and schoolhouse. In 1825, John Dickson bought land northeast of present-day St. Ann from Nicholas de Montfort for $1 per acre ($40 per square mile). Dickson began to build an agricultural estate that became one of the largest privately owned farms in Missouri; today it remains under private ownership and is known as "Dickson's Farm". In 1828, Anna Maria Amherst founded a convent/school at what would become Annabelle Avenue & Main Street in what is now St. Ann Village Center (now called Amherst Heights), just east of present-day Stannard Road (US 30). This convent/school functioned until 1861 when it merged with another Catholic school located nearby to form Annapolis School District No 2 (now part of Coshocton Township). That same year saw the opening of what would eventually be considered one of America's most beautiful churches – Holy Cross Parish Church – located on Main Street across from present-day First Baptist Church building (now occupied by Weisman Middle School). When First Baptist built their current building on Congress Avenue in 1893, Holy Cross Chapel served as their parish church until 1971 when that structure was replaced by Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish Hall on East Broad Street nearpresent-day Park Elementary School.) One key early impact on the growth and development of Stannard Village were two major road projects: US 231 was extended northwest from its original alignment through what is now central town to connect with Missouri Route 66 north then south to Springfield; and US 231A was completed concurrent with this extension northward making access to Hwy 235 available right outside central town limits for farmers expanding their operations into new areas such as downtown or northside neighborhoods like those around South High School where auto parts stores are now located! From here businesses grew quickly starting with some becoming well-known local icons like Becker's Shoes which opened up shop in what is now Kmart Plaza while other pioneers including Highway 51 Sheet Metal Sales continued doing business out there along routes 66&231 before turning inward onto Commercial Drive eventually becoming KFC #8252 back then later moved out onto Eads Drive etc... over time these businesses gradually started coming together formingwhat we know today as Dickson's Farm!

During the late 1800s, St. Ann experienced several expansions as more people moved into the area including a hospital in 1892 and an ice cream parlor in 1904. By 1910, the population had increased to 3,500 people and by 1920, it had reached 5,000 people. However, during World War II (1939-1945), the town saw significant decline as many of its citizens enlisted in military service which caused a decrease in population over time. As result of this decline in population however, many businesses closed down or merged with other businesses creating an overall decline in economic activity throughout most of the 20th century which led to some loss of cultural significance within St. Ann municipality itself However since 2000s there has been an increase in cultural significance as part of efforts to revitalize local economies In 1936 when St Ann was founded it was one small outpost on what would become one of America’s largest westward expansion ever – taking advantage not only of natural resources but also cheap labor from Mexico – due largely to LDS missionary fervor at that time sweeping across much western America D&R Giddings & Co., general storekeepers….. began developing what would become “St Ann” about 1830 near present day Pekin Avenue; Hyrum Smith started driving ferry service from Pekin Landing on Red River (now called Putnamtown)…. first post office at “Stannan” Dec 15th 1840 A building lot occupied Dec 31st 1841 from Hiram Bingham…. mail received here Jan 1st 1842 From: Salt Lake City
