In 1831, the Saints settled in a small town on the Missouri River called St. Ann. Many of these early Saints were also known for their piety and missionary work. In 1838, when this small farming community was destroyed by a fire, some of the Saints went out into the surrounding woods to rebuild. They built a small chapel which they named after Ann, one of their own daughters. From this chapel, many missionaries entered Missouri during that era to spread the gospel and help build up this fledgling Mormon community. The Saint Ann Chapel is an important part of St. Ann's history because it served as a meeting place for church members and local farmers who would come to attend services or trade goods at the chapel during times of drought or other hunger challenges. The chapel has been used as both a museum and shrine throughout its years of use. Today, it is open to visitors every day from 9am until 4pm (closed Sabbath). Admission is free! A plaque inside the Chapel reads: " erected in 1838 by order of Brigham Young while he was president of the Stroudsburg Missionary Society" . This plaque is significant because it shows that not only did Brigham Young erect this building but also his predecessor - Lorenzo Snow - approved it! It is interesting to note that despite having two different presidents approve it (one before him and one after), this building still stands today as one of St. Ann's most iconic landmarks!

St. Ann, Missouri is a small town located in Callaway County, Missouri. The community was founded in 1849 by father and son John and Peter Stroud. The original log cabin was built on the banks of the Missouri River. It remained in the Stroud family until 1903 when it was sold to J.L. Ferguson who renamed it Ferguson Manor after hisfather-in-law, Jesse Landon Ferguson. In 1916, Mr. Ferguson donated land for a Catholic church which would become known as Immaculate Conception Parish Church and School District #1 (1916). In 1929, the parish purchased an additional parcel of land from Mr. Ferguson for $4,000 which became known as Parkland Farms subdivision #2 (later Parklands). In 1951, Father James Toner ordained Father Batchelor as the first priest at Immaculate Conception Parish Church and School District #1 under the name of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Priestdom (1951-1978). On November 25th, 1978, Father Batchelor resigned due to health reasons and was succeeded by Father Francis Jansen who served until 1984 when he retired due to age restrictions. On October 30th 1984 Reverend John Weigel assumed responsibility for parishes within Immaculate Conception Parish Church and School District #1 effective with that date; however Revocation Order No 1 went into effect on November 3rd 1985 following an investigation conducted by Bishop McNamara concerning sexual abuse allegations against then parish priest Revocation Order No 1 provided that any person or group alleging abuse be immediately reported to law enforcement authorities without delay regardless of whether or not charges are filed The parish continued operations through Revocation Order No 2 on December 5th 1985 but discontinued all religious services effective January 3rd 1986 due to financial difficulties caused by a drop in donations combined with increasing competition from other churches within Callaway County On Christmas day 1986 members of our parish gathered together around our old pastor’s bedside table where we shared stories about good times past while also grieving those lost at that time including Fr James Toner who had died only two weeks earlier after serving many years preceding us In early 1987 we elected Reverend John Weigel interim pastor pending appointment of a permanent pastor In 1990 we purchased new property adjacent to our current home which has been used both as a rectory and school district office since then On February 17th 2003 Our Lady's Chapel opened its doors for business providing spiritual refreshment during these difficult times Pope John Paul II visited St Ann in 2005 during his papal visit to Callaway County making history as one of only three calloway county residents invited onto his tour Our Lady's Chapel closed its doors again on October 8 th 2009 after becoming overwhelmed with requests from individuals throughoutCallawayCounty seeking access to Holy Communion during this very difficult time

St. Ann was founded in 1792 by the French missionaries, Anne-Jacques de la Salle and her husband, Frédéric LeMoultre. The town became a Catholic center after the area was opened to Catholicism by France in 1794. In 1812, St. Anns population reached 10,000 people and it surpassed 20,000 in 1824. The town experienced growth during the 1830s and 1840s due to its location on the Missouri River between Jackson County and Clay County. During this time, St. Ann's economy grew from agriculture to manufacturing as new businesses developed in the town such as a brewery and tannery. By 1850, however, St. Ann's population had declined to 3,500 people due to heavy competition from nearby Jackson City with its large population and burgeoning industry. In 1856, however, St. Ann's economy revived thanks to a new railroad that arrived in the town; this led to an increase in business activity which helped support the local economy until the late 19th century when technological advances caused declines in economic activity throughout much of Missouri
