In 1846,Father John Bannon set up his own seminary here which later became known as Jameson University; and in 1865, Father John Keane established an 8-acre (3 hectares) agricultural campus here that remains an integral part of the town today. Reverend Patrick Nugent developed this land into one of Missouri's largest dairy farms during the early 20th century; and during World War II (1939–1945), St. Ann played host to several American military bases including Fort Knox Army Airfield west of St . Louis and Camp Kilmer Army Airfield east of St . Louis. In recent years, much attention has been given to efforts being made by local businesses and citizens alike to revitalize downtown Saint Ann with new construction projects such as art galleries/museum spaces/restaurants/etc.; as well as restoration work done both inside and outside of some older buildings such as the old convent building and priest's house (which are now used for storage). Overall, these efforts have helped create an environment that is more congenial than it once was for people who consider themselves Catholicorians or Lutherans while also providing opportunities for outsiders to learn more about what makes this community special from scratch rather than just reading surface accounts or watching videos about it from other parts of the world
