When the first Americans set foot in what is now Springfield, Missouri, they were quickly met with hostility from the local Native American population. The area was full of thick forests and thick jungles, so the new arrivals had no choice but to find a way to trade goods with these people without getting killed. So, early on in their stay, some of the pioneers went out into the forest and started finding trees with GUNS drawn against them! Eventually, after some more testing and experimentation by the settlers, they came up with a design that worked just fine- an iron sight that you point at something real close (like your neighbor's house), and then pull back to get a better view. This new sight called a "ringguard." From here on out, it was all about getting those guns onto the battlefield as soon as possible! As wars continued to rage throughout Europe and America, soldiers needed accurate firepower in order to defeat their enemies. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Washington D.C., which caused many people in Illinois to leave their homes and move to Missouri. Many residents of Springfield decided to stay and continue supporting the city that they had created themselves. The city continued growing rapidly and by 1870 had reached its current size with over 200 residents living there alone or in small groups. In 1907, Springfield became one of 50 cities nationwide granted city status by Congress under President Theodore Roosevelt's New Deal program known as " Municipal Improvement Districts." Under this program, municipalities were given money specifically designated for infrastructure improvement such as parks and water systems. This gave Springfield an edge over other cities when it came time for planning decisions made about how best to improve their neighborhoods. During World War II, much effort went into building up stocks of foodstuffs needed for war production outside of Illinois so that prices could be controlled at home without having to worry about shipping supplies all the way across country on rough seas ( Known as 'the Great Depression'). When war ended early 1945 due to Allied victory over Germany, most jobs left Illinois but not all; some people stayed behind because they needed agricultural work or land close enough to grow crops even while wartime materials shortages reduced demand for these products (known as 'the postwar boom'). After years of growth followed by many problems like economic recession starting in 1929 (known as 'the Great Depression'), Mayor John Hagedorn declared bankruptcy in 1947 after being unable to make payrolls from government revenues alone during his previous two terms combined with rising costs associated with modern day life such as cars driving around on freeways instead of dirt roads), citizens turned out against him following his re-election campaign promise not raise taxes again until he could show progress on social programs like job training or housing reform which he never did despite raised taxes another 2 times since his first term began). On January 3rd 1949 Hagedorn was impeached along with 5 others including Governor Tom Pritzker who took office immediately after impeachment proceedings started; making future mayors Art Snyder (1949-1951), John Cullerton (1951-1959), Mayors Richard Mieczkowski (1959-1966), Democrat Emanuel Cleaver (1967-1973)and Republican George Ryan(1974-)self acclaimed monarchists who ruled without any constraints from within or without their own party throughout most if not all aspects public service ending only upon death/ resignation/ removal from office via impeachment proceedings on November 3rd 1978 following more than 20 years reign culminating with Ryan becoming governor following Pritzker's death 14 months earlier
