Sikeston, Missouri is a town in Daviess County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1827 by fur traders David and Solomon Sikeston. The original name for the community was "New Salem." In 1837, it became the terminus of a wagon road that connected Hannibal to St Louis. This wagon road later became known as the highway 78 corridor. In 1872, when Illinois merged with Missouri to form the United States of America, Sikeston became part of Daviess County. At that time, it had a population of only 100 residents and consisted of just six houses. In 1937, when Kansas annexed Daviess County into its statehood, Sikeston officially added its name to the list of Kansas towns having their own post office (it had been called New Salem since 1827). By 1960, however, all but one house in town had been destroyed by fire; according to USGS survey data as of 2010 there remained just one house remaining in town and it is now used as a church parking lot! Today's Sikeston starts out small enough- back when it only consisted of 6 homes and 1 post office- with growth fueled primarily by 3 families who immigrated here over 40 years ago: Steve & Dianne Greengrass from Ohio; Harry & Nancy Pigeon from Kentucky; & Fredrick “Peg” Smith from Wisconsin who started farming here in 1935 & has never stopped growing food ever since! Today we have an economy based mainly on agriculture which employs many people including many young farmers who are starting their families here too! From our farm stand you can purchase eggs or pork products such as ham hams or bacon etc., fresh produce such as apples or potatoes etc., yogurt for sale during intense summer months/ winter weeksdays/ weekends etc., ice cream cones for those hot days or cold nights out on our property if desired(we also have some really great baked goods like muffins and breads)

Sikeston, Missouri was founded in 1838 by George Armstrong Custer. The local post office and hotel were both established in this town. Sikeston was the site of several important battles during the American Civil War including Battle of Hill Top on July 10, 1861, Battle of Wilson's Creek on October 17, 1862 and the Battle of Perryville on November 3, 1862. In 1863, General Phil Sheridan's cavalry brigade camped at Sikeston before moving north to join General Grant's army at Cold Harbor. After the battle at Cold Harbor, most of Sheridan's cavalry returned to their original campsites in nearby Hill Top and White Sands while some continued east to help lead Union forces into Atlanta.
