The Sikeston Gun Pouch Company was established in 1881. The company produced a wide variety of firearm pouches, including revolvers, pistols, shotguns and rifles. In 1927, the company merged with the Missouri Gun Pouch Company to form the present-day Sikeston Gun Pouch Corporation.
Sikeston is a small town in the Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 784 at the 2010 census. It lies east of Meade on State Highway 11 and north of Kansas City on State Highway 9. The first settler in Sikeston was John Withers, who arrived in 1839. He built a cabin near the present day intersection of Oakwood and Indian Roads. Withers' grandson, Ebenezer Withers, also ranched in Sikeston for many years until his death in 1909. In 1847, William Henshaw bought land from Ebenezer Withers and started to develop it into a village. In 1850, he sold part of his holdings to James Boggs for $400 and moved the village to its current location. The Village plat was filed on May 10, 1851 with the government surveyor's office; it contained only two streets and one public house (later renamed the "Avenger" hotel). The first school building was built in 1852 by Rufus Kapp as an academy for boys. A second school building was erected by J.H. Smith in 1861-1862; that building still stands today as the old Masonic Lodge Building (now used as apartments). It wasn't until 1870 that brick buildings began to be erected in Sikeston - three brick blocks were built along State Highway 11 between Maple Street and University Avenue (now known as Hickory Avenue). This block may have been designed by local architect George Mclntyre after seeing an advertisement for bricks from Baltimore Pennsylvania which called for "a model town site." In 1871-72 two more blocks were added - this timedesignedbylocal architectJohn Sieving - at what is now Hickory Avenue/University Boulevard between Maple Street and Salisbury Road (now known as Pritchard Road). The new blocks formed what is now Main Street through downtown Sikeston when they were completed – this street would later be named after millionaire Eben Swann who had donated most of its money towards construction.) Before long all but one block on Main Street had been built - Block #5 which currently forms part of Jefferson Elementary School property line! That single block remained unbuilt until 1905 when it became part of what is now First National Bank Park! Nowadays you can see evidence of that buildinig process everywhere throughout downtown Sikeston - particularly around intersections including Main/Jefferson Streets where several large piers remain today traceable back to those early days! Some other early landmarks include: The Fenton Mill which stood just south of modern day North High School till it went out of business around 1890; Mrs Ladd's store located onOakwood Road across from future First National Bank; Judge Hardesty's office located off Elmira Drive near present day Union Pacific Railroad tracks; & finally Drury's general store located just southeast corner Early Childhood Center Drive & South Brunswick Road within walking distance today...all without question!) Most people will forget about these older landmarks names but if you're interested enough you can Google them up or go even further back into history like I did ;) However let’s not get ahead Of ourselves here because we’ll get back onto our topic at hand soon enough ;) . . . So back to our main point…..the village started out smaller than what we know it now due mainly to lack of development funds available during those early days! But with hard work by some enterprising citizens things began to change rapidly…. primarily due to young Mr Swann himself who invested heavily into downtown Sikeston’s continued growth!! In fact so much so that eventually all but one block On MainStreetbe Built 😊😃😃😀👍👍🏼
