By 1860, many other families had moved into what is now Sikeston from surrounding farms too; these included several dozen Germans who had come to work on the railroad's construction project in nearby Hannibal. This community began to take form around this time -albeit slowly - with people buying land from pioneers or renting from others who lived there before them. Sikeston quickly prospered due to its location midway between two major railroads (the C&O system) and its close ties with other communities in eastern Missouri; it became an important hub for trade during this period! However, like most small towns throughout America during this time frame,... [T]he growth did not stop when trains stopped coming through town). brickyards started popping up everywhere... people built themselves new houses... [and] businesses continued booming." Many famous people were born or raised within reach of Tikeston during this era: Grover Cleveland was born nearby in 1837; Abraham Lincoln was born three miles away at Monticello near Jefferson Barracks; James Buchanan was also born about two miles away in 1861... It wasn't until after World War II that Sikeston truly came onto national radar thanks to some key locals - like Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen - whose companies made significant contributions to modern society! Today no less than 15 percent of all jobs located in Missouri are associated with those firms!
