The community was founded by Confederate veterans who left Sedalia to help fight for the Union during the Civil War. The town had a population of just over one hundred fifty-six residents when it was taken by Union forces in 1864. After the war, Sedalia grew rapidly and became an important manufacturing center for ammunition and firearms. In 1930, the first federally funded school in Sedalia was built and continues to serve as its primary educational institution today. Today, Sedalia is home to several businesses that continue to play an important role in local economy. These businesses include Kmart, Sears, JCPenney, Ford Motorsports Park (FMP), and Best Western Plus Hotel & Casino. Sedalia, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks region of central Missouri. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. Sedalia is home to the Sedalia-Odessa School District and the Sedalia-Odessa Cemetery. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sedalia were French Jesuit missionaries in 1764. The town was platted in 1836 by De Witt Clinton and named for General James Hosea Sedgwick, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. A post office was established here in 1841, and a school was opened in 1847. In 1865, when it became part of Jackson County, Sedalia became one of its original townships. In 1870, it became a village; on July 1, 1907, it became a city with a population of 33,715. On January 16, 1861 Milton Jarrell shot and killed John Kirby (17 years old), one of several men who had been hired by Jarrell as help on his farm near present day Odessa. This event is cited as being one of the seeds that led to later tension between Jarrell and many residents of Sedalia over land acquisitions and other issues such asthais period known as "Jarrell's War." Repeated skirmishes took place throughout this era until 1863 when Confederate forces under General Pemberton destroyed most or all communication between Jackson County and nearby Topeka following their successful invasion of Kansas City (Kansas). In 1868 local farmer Ebenezer Horton donated 5 acres (20 hectares) east of town for use as a public square; this area eventually came to be called "Horton Park." The first municipal building—an lean-to structure—was erected here in 1870; within five years it had been replaced by a more permanent frame building that still stands today. On November 15th 1909 Mayor Augustus Seddon dedicated what would become the city hall complex after defeating two opponents who sought to demolish it using property acquired from Mrs. Martha Baird Boothe on behalf of her son-in-law Gavilan Baird II (1853-1924). By 1920 there were 11 wards within the city limits: 6 rural wards plus 3 each comprising portions or entirety of 3 other villages: Newtonia (northwest corner), Lebanon (southwest corner), Andover (northern edge), Carthage (central edge), Butler Springs (southern edge) During World War I 1914–1918 both sides used civilian labor recruited through door knockers throughout Missouri including Sedalia which resulted in no fatalities however many injuries occurred due to unexploded ordnance left from war time hostilities .during World War II especially because we were allies with Germany our soldiers did much damage not only inside sedalia but also outside sedalia

Sedalia, Missouri is a small town in Sedalia County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,345 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Fenton-Lakeville, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original name for Sedalia was "Natchez". The first white settler in this area was David Thomas who arrived in 1812 and named it after his friend Nicholas Natchitoches. In 1838, Daniel Webster moved to this area and opened a store called the General Store. This store became one of the most important businesses in Sedalia until it closed its doors in 1917. The community of Sedalia was founded on October 7, 1871 by John Pemberton and James Humes as a Methodist church located between what are now Sidney Road and Prospect Avenue. Reverend Pemberton left behind several slaves to start the town's initial infrastructure including roads, schools and churches. In 1870s there were only two stores open in Sedalia - one run by Mr. Humes and another by Mr. Webster - but within 10 years these had all closed or been replaced with more formal brick buildings that still stand today including the former courthouse which housed both district courts (small claims court) from 1889-1997 and also served as an appellate tribunal for state supreme court decisions from 1979-1991 before being moved to Jefferson City due to budgetary constraints In 1916 when World War I began America experienced an unprecedented economic boom fueled largely by exports from Europe resulting in increased demand for goods produced here such as munitions manufacturing plants across the country Consequently much of what remains of downtown Sedalia – Streetscape & Park – dates back to this time frame Additionally many contributing properties have since been sold off including: Knoppers Drugstore building 1904; First National Bank building 1907; Union Carbide Company Building 1912; Masonic Temple built 1928 Although some commercial property has been lost over time (e.g., JW Marriott hotel), overall downtown redevelopment has proceeded relatively smoothly despite faced opposition along dimensions such as traffic generated by large convention/ tourism events etc… These days you can find plenty of evidence of post WWI prosperity both inside & outside downtown sedliaiite like examples of restored architecture like Knoppers Drugstore’s original redbrick facade dating back to 1907 (now used as office space); Union Carbide Company Building’s terra cotta ornamentation complete with dentils & capital “C” date back to 1912 (& now houses a mix ofUsed bookstore / restaurant); Masonic Temple which went up for sale multiple times but ended up being acquired by Heritage Development Group LLC aka MOBILE AVERAGE which renovated it into their new headquarters known officially as “The Lodge”; sidestepping discussion about whether or not Restoration efforts should be considered Partisan politics aside Downtown Business Improvement District has provided essential services such as trash collection etc… all while making sure that no budget shortfalls impede further development thereby maximizing taxpayer investment As mentioned earlier much recent progress can be found on foot either inside or outside old sedliaiite landmarks like Redbrick Courthouse which is still used primarily for government functions like Superior Court case hearings & Sidewalk cafe where breakfast items are especially popular
