Sedalia is a town in Sedalia County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sedalia was founded in 1854 and named for Major General James Fenton Sedalia, Jr., who was military governor of Missouri during the Mexican-American War. The first school in Sedalia opened in 1875. The present courthouse was built in 1903 and dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt. Gun sights history begins with an invention by one man: Benjamin Banneker. By 1865 there were six stores with a population of 2,500; by 1870 there were ten stores with a population of 10,000; by 1880 there were thirteen stores with a population of 20,000; but by 1890 it had only two stores remaining and its population was down to 955 because of waves of emigration to Kansas City which replaced Sedalia as the center of industry in the area after cotton ginning became more common in Kansas City during that time In 1930 Sedalia organized as an independent city charter under the name "Kansas City." In 1936 it merged with Poplar Bluff to form what is now Springfield Township (and later Sedalia Township), Mo., although most residents still identify themselves as residents of either Sedalia or Poplar Bluff. WhenKansas City merged into St Louis through annexation on February 17th 1997 all former sedalian citizens who lived within city limits eastward annexed into St Louis proper including any old sedalian citizens who resided within city limits westward annexation into Scott Township MO along with any new sedalian citizens who moved into those areas since incorporation without changing their residency status if they chose not to do so According to the K-12 school district website: "Sedalia High School (grades 9-12) serves students from northwest suburban Parkville downriver to Wichita Falls/Tomball south to Wichita Falls/Tomball east across I-30 then north back up I-30" while "Scott Central High School (grades 7-9) serves students from northwest suburban Parkville all the way south along US 71 until Wichita Falls" When Kansas City merged into St Louis through annexation on February 17th 1997 all former sedalian citizens who lived within city limits eastward annexed into St Louis proper including any old sedalian citizens who resided within city limits westward annexation into Scott Township MO along with any new sedalian citizens who moved into those areas without changing their residency status if they chose not to do so according to school district website: “Sedalia High School (grades 9-12) serves students from northwest suburban Parkville downriver to Wichita Falls/Tomball south to Wichita Falls/Tomball east across I-30 then north back up I-30” while “Scott Central High School (grades 7-9)serving students from northwest suburban Parkville all the way south along US 71 until Wichita Falls”
