Snowmobiling and ice skating are popular winter activities here because of the many large frozen ponds available for skating or walking around on during certain months with no snow meltings taking place anywhere else nearby making this one of only a few places where you can go without fear of getting stranded out there during especially severe winters.(1) According to the 2010 census, Sedalia had 1,653 residents living in 585 housing units. The racial makeup of Sedalia was 98% white and 2% black. Hispanic or Latino residents made up 3% of the population according to2010 Census data.(2) According to 2000 census data from Missouri Department of Revenue - Topeka & Shawnee Counties department - sedalia had 731 households out of which 36% were family households with children under 18 years old living with them full-time; 54% were single family dwellings.(3) According to 2006 American Community Survey data from Missouri Department Of Commerce – Jefferson County department -sedalia had 914 households out of which 28% were family households with children under 18 years old living with them full-time; 56% were single family dwellings.(4) As reported by MOBILEData Inc., Sedalia also has one school district: Northwest Elementary School(5). Northwest Elementary School serves students grades K-8th through 12th grade alongwith special education services offered by Central Kansas Autism Center(6).

Sedalia, Missouri is a small town located in Sedalia County, Missouri. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Sedalia has been called the "most beautiful small town in America" and the "Gateway to the Ozarks". The town was founded by David Wilburn in 1837 and named for his home of Sedalia, Illinois. In 1864, General James H. Carleton established a military post here and renamed it Fort Carleton after himself. This led to an influx of settlers from Illinois who desired a sedentary lifestyle as compared to the military life in Kansas City and other nearby towns. The first store in Sedalia was built on Main Street in 1872 by Jno. Waddell and became one of the most popular grocery stores in the area until it closed its doors in 1971. It reopened under new ownership but closed again within two years due to financial difficulties. Another early store that operated here was Brown's Hardware on Saginaw Street which opened its doors on October 12, 1870 by Fenton Brown Sr.. It is also safe to say that Sedalia would not have had its current appearance if it were not for William Dudley Dodge's development of Dodge City which began operations here back in 1865. He started out as a blacksmith but soon realized that he could make a better living selling goods from his shop than doing farm work or local manufacturing. Dodge City grew rapidly due to its excellent transportation facilities which allowed goods to be transported east without having them seized by government officials along the way! Today, Dodge City is considered an architectural landmark due to its grandeur and impressive architecture including several churches, hotels, schools and Masonic Lodge buildings!
