Rolla is a small town in the Ozarks of Missouri. It is located on the rolling hills of the central area of the state, and it has a population of about 5,000. Rolla experienced significant growth during World War II due to its strategic location as a crossroads for military activities in the region and its role as an airfield for Allied bombers flying over Germany during that war. The town benefited from federal wartime production tax exemptions and other benefits given to cities during the Depression years.
