A gristmill operated here until 1862 when it became a flour mill run by George Wills & Son which later became part of Golden Grain Company which also owned the Kansas Pacific Railway system between St Louis and Omaha In 1865, local businessman Alfred Pyle organized a group that purchased 73 acres (27 ha) of land north of town on High School Road to create what would become known as Pyle Park after its founder In 1868, Rolla's first school opened with 10 students attending grades one through twelve In 1886, rolla's only grocery store opened with J B Smith as its proprietor In 1914–15 rolled new streets were laid out throughout town following an idea put forth by then-Mayor Harry Laughlin That same year saw the opening of Rolla's first hospital with Dr John Molineux as its director Additionally during World War I rolls were made for military service members living within town limits with some residents working for companies such as Armour Paper Products; however due to wartime rationing all rolls stopped after 1918 . After the war ended there wasn't much need for rolls so they slowly died out over time until they were finally discontinued altogether in 1951 .
