The first post office in Rolla was established on December 11, 1854, and served until it was discontinued on March 3, 1865. The first store in Rolla was opened by Wm. Hagan on November 10, 1857. In 1860 the first school in Rolla opened with fourteen students and taught grades one through twelve; it closed in 1862 due to low enrollment numbers. A new school building was erected in 1865 and served as the high school from that year until it burned down in 1907; however a new high school building was erected and serves as the current high school since 1915 . In 1870 rollas territorial government passed an act creating Butler County which included rollas town of rolla within its boundaries; county seat would be located at Springfield but no vote ever took place to move the county seat because there were no commissioners available to do so . The original plat of what is now downtown Springfield (which incorporated as a city when statehood came about) shows two churches – First Baptist Church(founded 1859) and Zion Methodist Episcopal Church (established 1863). In 1914 both churches were torn down and replaced with a single brick church which still stands today – Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1889). When Missouri became a Ulysses S Grant Territory following the Civil War on April 12th 1865 Rollas citizens voted not to secede from Missouri because they felt their rights had been violated by Union forces during the war while Kansas residents did so largely out of patriotic fervor rather than any real political reasons or grievances against their fellow Kansans

Rolla is a small town in Bollinger County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Rolla is located on the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains and has a humid subtropical climate. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield–Branson, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The rollicking town began as a trading post called Fort Atkinson on the banks of the Arkansas River in 1821. A more permanent settlement was founded by General Andrew Jackson's forces in 1836 after they were driven out of Jackson County by Native Americans. The new settlers named their new community Rolla in honor of General John Rollin, who had led Jackson's cavalry during his victorious Indian Wars campaign against Chief Osage tribe in 1814-1815. In 1840, Rolla became one of three towns consolidated into Springfield when that city annexed Bollinger County. In 1865, Rolla was incorporated as a village under state law No. 559 entitled "An Act to establishe and promote local manufactures." At first Velda Cotton Mills operated out of what is now downtown Rolla but later this company merged with other mills to form Armour Mills Corporation which continued operations until 1984 when it merged with Beech Aircraft Industries to become Beechcraft International Incorporated (BII). That year BII sold its assets to US Airways for $2 billion making it one of America's largest airlines by revenue and size alone. The Follett Manufacturing Company opened its doors in 1912 as one of the earliest American vacuum cleaners manufacturers outside those producing electric lights or appliances such as refrigerators or dishwashers.
