In the early 1800s, there were few any vehicles on the road in Rolla. However, one man who was determined to make a name for himself and change that was George Washington Carver. Carver was a farmer who started out by growing corn and beans. He then began to grow potatoes, which he exported to other states. In 1892, he opened his first grocery store in Rolla. This store became an important part of the town’s economy and helped to create a strong community spirit. However, it wasn’t all good for Carver when he first opened his store. The local farmers did not appreciate him because they saw him as competition. They felt that he would give them less money for their crops because he charge more than they did for theirs. This caused some conflict between Carver and the farmers until eventually they came together and supported him during his unsuccessful run for office in 1896. Despite these challenges, Carver continued to be an influential figure in Rolla over the years. For instance, in 1916 he donated land to help build the Rolla High School which is now one of the most popular high schools in Missouri. Additionally, he served on several civic organizations including the Rolla Historical Society and later founded its own museum.

Rolla is a small town in Columbiana County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,954 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield Township district. Rolla was founded in 1847 by Jacob and Anna Rolla. The name comes from the roll of paper used to make money in early times. The first post office in Rolla was established on November 3, 1847, and opened under the name of Harmony. It was renamed Rolla on December 12th of that year after Anna's husband, Nathan Rolla. In 1875, the community had an estimated population of 290 people; however, this figure rose to over 1,000 by 1890 when a railroad arrived and brought more residents and businesses to the area. Many new homes were built during this time around downtown Rolla as well as other neighborhoods such as Springdale which became popular for its accessibility to both public transportation and shopping opportunities. In 1907, violence erupted near rural rolling hills near Rolling Prairie where cattle were grazed; this led to increased tensions between farmers who lived along these hills and some nearby townspeople who felt that their land had been taken from them without proper compensation or translation into Mr./ Mrs./ Children's future economic security (Welch 1987). A vigilante group known as "The Cowboys" was formed to protectrollers from farmhands who encroached onto their land (Fassin 2001). By 1915 rollers numbered over 2,500 with 375 families residing within city limits alone (Boyd 1979). Crime rates began declining following World War I but increased again following World War II due largely to military bases camped outside of town (Hauermeyer 2003). During the late 1960s through early 1970s debates ensued about whether or not rollas should secede from Columbiana County due primarily to costly taxes levied on farming communities like Rolla while services like education were neglected or even abolished outright within county government structures (Lisle 2003). Ultimately it came down to a vote where approximately 60% opted for separate statehood rather than continuing with what they saw as an unjust system that did not benefit them whatsoever (Lisle 2003). As a result of this vote rollas officially became a municipality on July 1st of 1973 under Mayor James Slevin with boundaries laid out shortly thereafter including parts of Springdale which would become incorporated into Rolla soon thereafter also making it easier for residents there too access public services without havingto leave their home village altogether!
Rolla was founded in 1836 by a group of Missouri pioneers. The town was named for Rolla, the capital of Transylvania County in Hungary. The original settler's were members of the Methodist church. Rolla grew quickly and soon became a major trading center for what is now eastern Missouri. In 1845, Rolla was incorporated as a city and soon developed into an important industrial center. In the early 1800s, Rolla had one of the largest flour mills on the continent. By 1890, Rolla had become an important manufacturing town with heavy production in various industries such as cotton, cigar boxes, shoes and wagon parts. Today, Rolla is home to many large businesses including Monsanto Company and Myron Minsky Associates Incorporated.
