In 1998, Marantz merged with Vivitar Corporation and rebranded its products as Vivitar Optics. Today, Vivitar Optics is one of the largestmanufacturers of binoculars in the world.

On November 30th of that same year Rolla voters adopted an ordinance authorizing annexation by Ballwin into the city Limits thereby becoming an official incorporated town within the City Limits). The annexation took effect on December 2nd 2009; according to statistics provided by the City Manager at that time there were over 1,500 residents living in annexed neighborhoods as well as individuals working for or associated with Rolla businesses (Citizens Business Association) . In October 2007 Rolla celebrated its 100th anniversary and proclaimed itself "the oldest continuously functioning town in east central Missouri".
