Republic has experienced various economic expansions throughout its history: starting out small with just a few businesses in 1906 when annexing Saline County; slowly building up into what is today one of America's leading commercial centers; experiencing rapid growth following World War II which led to significant development projects such as hospitals, shopping malls and other major infrastructure projects; culminating with another large expansion following retirement age changes made applicable in 1991 which led to increased job opportunities for citizens once again moving into this thriving commercial center located right next door to both Kansas City proper (the city's original core) and Shawnee Mission University - two major research universities in KCMO - making it not only one of KCMO's most vibrant areas but also home to some very high-end residential properties (such as The Mayfair).
