The restored republic Post Office reopened on October 1st, 1961 after closed for more than 40 years! Since its reopening, Republic has seen many changes including: a new high school built in 2001; a library opened in 2003; and a new hospital built in 2006 which now employs over 200 doctors!

Republic, Missouri is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 712 at the 2010 census. It was founded on July 20, 1821 by General James H. Ketchum and named after the Spanish Republic of America (independence from Spain). Republic was incorporated as a town on November 4, 1836. Republic became a city on December 14, 1907. The first settler in Republic was John Pemberton who arrived in 1792 with his family from Virginia. He built the first log cabin in what is now Republic and opened shop there until 1805 when he moved to established the village of Independence north of town. In 1806 Pemberton married Sarah Cook and they had six children: John Pemberton II (1807-1874), Sarah Atherly Cook (1810-1893), Martha Ann Pemberton (1814-1901), James H., Jr.(died 1865), Andrew Jackson Pemberton(baptized 1830). In 1821 General James H. Ketchum founded the town of Republic near Independence as part of his effort to create an all-Native American republic that would be independent from Spain. The town charter was published on July 20th and ratified by vote two days later; it called for a plat or map of thetown which showed its location along present day US Route 66 between Independence and Portlanda Springs among other places Ketchum's efforts failed but within five months he had organized a militia company and commissioned Captain Isaac Chouteau to survey the area for possible settlement On October 1st, 1824 Chouteau reported that there were "sufficient sites available" within 10 miles of Bohemia for up to 100 settlers including Ketchum himself On November 4th precinct commissioners selected George Tucker as captain general of militia forces to lead development in Republic while provisional council members were appointed to carry out local ordinances On December 14thRepublic became an official Ulysses S Grant County seat when it amalgamated with Florissant Township
