In 1840, when Missouri became a state, Republic became one of its original townships. On January 1st 1840 Constitution Township No 1 was organized out of part of George Rogers Clark's old Caldwell County seat Stilwellsville; this township had been established on December 12th 1799 from parts of Pulaski County including present day Republic Township No 3 & 4 following General Sam Barlow’s orders for all future Wyandotte counties now lying within Kansas Territory under his command as Major General/Governor Jones[5]. On July 9th 1840 Constitution Township No 2 was organized from disputed parts northeast corner near... Russell's Ford Road [6] between White Sands Creek & territorial line joining Edwards Co., Mo & Scott Co., Kan [7], taking territory now included in present day Buchanan County (& adjacent portions Agassiz co.)& adding present day Clinton co.: this township had been established on June 30th 1839 from parts exchanged among two other early republictownships: Constitution Township No 6 southeast corner along Indianola River just above its confluence with Brush Creek [] ([8]) & Webster Valley ([9]), also sharing between them boundaries with Buchanan today:[10] these three northwestern original republictownships later combined into what are known today as United States Senator District 10[11]. This district includes most or all present day Buchanan county except for some northeastern tip area inside Randolph county where Randolph meets Scott county boundary: according to USGS topographic maps there have never been any official changes or updates affecting those boundaries since they were formed more than 150 years ago! Inaugurated November 16th 1830 by Governor Jackson,[12] Territorial Legislature convened December 7th 1830 including Representatives Groffman(D) “Old man” Hardesty[13], Dodge(R)… Mrs Fenton owned large tract bounded on W by Walnut creek....thus making her agent for that section….this map shows 4 lots surveyed.....one lot NW side marks spot now occupied by Tractor dealership....... surrounding lots Surveyed By Charles A Graves...... $600 per acre ($4 lots each)... Note:drawn up before Arkansas Compiled Laws took effect February 14TH 1861 The first settler in Republic built a log cabin near what is now Payne's Mill Pond on October 2nd 1836; it served as their home until they moved out six months later when they founded their own town site further south downriver at current-day Payne's Mill Lake.[14] The founder John Bemis purchased 640 acres (25 km2) from local pioneer Thomas Payne for $4 per acre – this amount would be worth around $60 million today if bought at face value – paving way for future townsites throughout much Central Mo.[15][16][17][18][19][20] Republic rapidly grew thanks both to its location within easy reach of major markets such as Topeka and Lawrenceburg while also enjoying nice weather year round; residents builtboatspans 340 feet long capableof holding up to 20 boats,[21] gristmills capableof grinding corn into meal or flour,[22][23][24][25][/26],[27][/28],[29][/30]; however during times Of heavy crop demand or drought conditions many residents turned ovens into homes cooking either food stored indoors or indirectly heated water heated through hearths dug into bedrock found beneath surface water covers thereby sparing structures directly exposed To direct Heat Gases[/31][/32]. They also constructed sawmills doing general woodworking such as joinery etc.; these machines not only produced goods but helped increase production during hard economic times due largely To increased use Of hand tools rather Than mechanized equipment—constructing things like door hinges With hands! Republic, Missouri was a town in Pulaski County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,594 at the 2000 census. It was founded in 1836 by General James B. Cooke and named for the Roman Republic, which Cooke had visited while on his army campaigns in the Indian Wars. In 1838, Republic became a county seat of Pulaski County. In 1861, it was moved to what is now Springfield Township because of the outbreak of the American Civil War and its effect on interstate travel within Missouri. On November 16, 1865, Republic fell to Confederate forces during the Battle of Springfield. This event marked an end for Republic and most of Pulaski County; however, some residents continued to live there until 1924 when they all joined Uniontown in Union Township.
Republic, Missouri was founded on October 16, 1821 by the merger of two settlements: Republic and Watkinsville. The town of Republic was laid out in a rectangular grid pattern with a crossroads at its center. Watkinsville was laid out in a more Circular Pattern and it occupied the eastern border of the merged town. On November 1, 1821, both towns voted to incorporate as a village. Republic had 9 residents and Watkinsville had 17 residents. The first public meeting for the village took place on November 15th. Republic's first mayor was James Aiken and Watkinsville's first mayor was Eli Whitney. The Village of Republic reached its peak population around 1830 when it had 35 residents. However, this growth slowed down around 1840 due to new arrivals from other settlements joining the village; this included John Sargeant who immigrated in 1841 and built what is now known as Sargeant’s Store on Main Street in Republic.
