Republic, Missouri is a town in Phelps County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settler in Republic was James Hickey in 1827. He and his family farm land that includes present-day Republic. The townsite was named for James Knoppers Jr., who had donated land to the town in 1875. In 1881, Republic became a city with a population of 2,200 people and it annexed neighboring Hutchinson on May 4, 1882. In 1902, Republic voted to become an independent republic under the name of "Republic" after receiving approval from Congress as an unincorporated community within Phelps County but with its own government and currency system. On October 15 of that year by resolution approved by the townspeople, it changed its name to "Republic" without consulting with the county government or any other residents. A new post office was established at Republic on February 17, 1903 and continued operation until 1963 when it merged into Kansas City's Post Office Department. In 1955, during the American Civil Rights Movement one resident of Republic joined leader Dr Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Shall Not Be Moved" march from Topeka through Wichita to Lenexa before continuing on to Olathe where they were arrested and jailed while protesting against white supremacy outside Topeka's courthouse door; their arrests are still remembered today as one of the most famous examples of nonviolent civil disobedience in U S history On November 5th 1984 two planes full of military personnel crashed into Reagan National Airport killing all 57 passengers aboard while only nine were Americans citizens living in what would be known as the "Miracle on Midway." This event has been called one of Americas greatest tragedies ever due to its senseless loss of life attributable mainly to preplanned planning by those who should have known better than anything could happen

Republic, Missouri was an American state in the Midwestern region of the United States. The state was formed on August 25, 1821 from parts of present-day Iowa and Illinois. It lasted until December 3, 1846 when it was admitted to the United States as a part of the Kansas–Nebraska Act. In total, Republic had a population of 11,548 in 1860 and 12,309 in 1890. The land that became Republic was part of what is now Nebraska. republic began as a small town in central Iowa called Humboldt. On August 25th 1821 (the day before Missouri was admitted to the Union), citizens of Humboldt voted 2-1 to form a new state out of their portions of present day Iowa and Illinois. This act established the precedent for future states by admitting other areas into the Union without first determining their political boundaries. The new state included an area that stretched from Omaha down to St Louis (then only 3 miles wide). The geographic location made for excellent farming soil and cattle raisers were among Republic's earliest industries; by 1850 over 60% of its residents were employed in agriculture alone. In less than two years after its formation, Republic had become one of America's most thriving agricultural communities with over 1,500 businesses operating at full capacity! Despite some initial challenges such as low taxation rates and lack of education opportunities for its citizens, Republic quickly grew prosperous thanks to its industriousness and hard work ethic! The addition of Kansas to the Union on January 29th 1862 brought many negative changes to Republic: industry dried up while wages dropped 50%, social clubs disbanded while men gangs flourished!, school enrollment plummeted while crime rates soared!! However despite these setbacks republic refused to give up its dreams or surrender its wayward young democracy!
