Republic, Missouri is a small town in eastern Kansas that was founded in 1836 as the capital of the United States. The town became an important center for agriculture and commerce after settlers moved there from adjacent Kansas Territory. The city of Independence, which is located about 21 miles to the north, was founded in 1838 as the first permanent settlement in Republic. As a result of its importance and its location within easy reach of two major centres, Republic grew rapidly during the early years of the American Revolution. By 1775, when Missouri entered Confederation with neighboring states to form America, Republic had become one of the leading trading towns in the new country. The outbreak of war against England in 1775 led to increased demand for goods and materials produced by republicans. On July 4, 1776, delegates from republicans and anti-republican militias convened at John Brown's Cabin to discuss how best to resist British forces invading America. It was here that James K. Polk met John Fenton and agreed to organize a militia force within two weeks if need be. This effort ultimately failed due to lacklustre support from high-ranking republicans such as President George Washington and Vice President Thomas Jefferson. However, it did lead to public outrage amongst some sections of society over what they saw as an act of treasonous cowardice on part of their leadership. This sentiment would continue throughout much of the Revolutionary War period; indeed, it helped contribute to Oliver Cromwell's decision not pursue fighting against Britain despite numerical superiority (See also: "The Declaration Of Independence"). After independence was achieved, republican efforts focused on creating a functioning government based on principles such as liberty and representation via voting rights for all citizens regardless their social status or wealth. In 1806 Republican Representative Elijah Woodard proposed that Missouri become an agricultural state with a strong emphasis on growing crops rather than manufacturing goods needed for waging war abroad; this proposal was accepted by then-Governor James Koggins while majority party members Senator Solomon Baldwin and Representative John Auld were not supportive. This change contributed greatly to growth rates in agriculture throughout western Missouri during Reconstruction (1865-1913). In addition, republicanism played a large role in helping bring about economic development subsequent to World War II; this included initiatives such as establishing du Ponts chemical plant outside St Louis following World War I which initiated significant economic changes across southern Illinois (See also: "The Truman Doctrine"). However, recent political trends have caused significant divisions within republicanism – most notably over plans To attract more immigrants into republicanism through amnesty – exemplified by demonstrations staged near St Louis last year which resulted in several injuries among both protesters and police officers

Republic, Missouri, is a small town in Benton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 597 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by James S. Hickey as a Methodist Episcopal church and post office. Republic was named after the Roman Republic, which had its capital in Rome and flourished during the time of George Washington and his successors. In 1859, Hickey donated land to establish what is now Republic High School; it opened in 1860. The first post office closed in 1865 and the last mail delivery took place on November 16, 1969. In 1902, Republic incorporated as a dry goods store with Aiken & Bacon as its first president and treasurer; it became a full-time operating store in 1915 under management of John Waddell Sr.. Waddell's son John Waddell Jr., who succeeded him in 1971, continued to run the business until his death in 1984. In 2007 JT Enterprises LLC acquired ownership of Republic from Waddell's estate for $1 million dollars In addition to its grocery store (now known as Supervalu), JT Enterprises also operated a variety of other businesses such as an auto parts store (now said to be one of the largestauto parts stores east of Kansas City), two barbershops (the only two remaining open today), three convenience stores (one now called SuperValu) and four home builder/purchase centers
