The history of Republic, Missouri can be traced back to 1836 when a group of farmers and landless men organized to form a town on the edge of what is now Independence, Missouri. The town was named for the Roman Republic, which had been destroyed by Julius Caesar in 44 BC. The first store in town was built by John Hardin and opened in 1837. In 1861, the Union Army attacked Fort Sumter, which began the American Civil War. On July 6, 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. As part of the surrender agreement, Confederate General Ulysses S. Grant agreed to give up all pretensions to independence within three months. This deadline was met and Union troops burned down most of Richmond before withdrawing into Virginia. Republic developed slowly until around 1870 when it gained a post office and began trading with Independence and other nearby towns. In 1873, the first school building was erected in Republic and it served as the local public school from that point on until 1955 when it became known as Independence Middle School (). In 1902-1903, a new Agricultural Experiment Station was founded in Republic due to increased agricultural production in surrounding counties during Wartime America (). That same year saw the initiation of construction on what would become home to one of the largest tornado outbreaks in United States history; an EF5 tornado touched down near Republic on May 15th-16th., 1886 that killed 24 people (the deadliest US tornado since records were kept). In 1908-1909, a large addition was made to Independence Middle School (), also known as Liberty Elementary School () after passage of legislation providing for such renameing by local municipalities (). It would remain that name until 1954 when it reverted back to its original name (Liberty Elementary School). In 1929-30, additional classrooms were added onto Liberty Elementary () making it one buildings long (). Additionally (), two wings were added onto Constitution High School () making it four buildings tall (); these additions are still extant today (2011). From there on out though things started to change for Republic; enrollment started dropping starting around World War II due to war rationing and then gradually increasing through the 1960s as more kids migrated away from central Missouri because of relocations within Kansas City orSt Louis/Chicago etc.. but keeping population steady through waves of new arrivals over time It wasn’t until about 1970 that enrollment peaked again thanks largely to increase opportunities available thanks mostlyto Interstate 70 being constructed eastward from St Louis creating more commuting options for kids living outside city limitsflooding aftermath 1973 & 1974
Republic, Missouri is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 26,921 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saint Louis metropolitan area. Republic was founded by General James K. Polk on April 20, 1836 as a stop on his journey to become President of the United States. The town grew rapidly and soon became an important center for trade and travel in central Missouri due to its location near major transportation routes. On February 15, 1838, Republic became the capital of the newly formed Kansas Territory when Territorial Governor John Wirt moved there from Lawrenceville with the intention of creating a new state out of what was then Central Arkansas territory. Kansas Territory was created on March 16th and Republic became its capital just two days later. On May 10th, 1838, Missouri gained full statehood as a result of the admission of Kansas into the Union as aerbys were ratified ratifying Kansas' admission into the Union on that day alone; Republic did not join until November 1st due to territorial limitations which were lifted following Nebraska's admission into service on November 16th). On January 6th 1861 (the day after Abraham Lincoln was elected President), Republic passed an ordinance proclaiming itselfseceded from Missouri and joining Confederate forces in Operation Alamo which resulted in more than 60 deaths but no damage done to any buildings or property within Republic itself

It was also the scene of many of the country's most significant political events during this time including the Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, and Reconstruction. In addition, Republic is home to the oldest courthouse in Missouri and one of its largest libraries.Today, Republic is a small community located just outside of Independence City on Route 66 between St Joseph and Independence. It has a population of about 350 residents and offers a variety of cultural attractions such as art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, and museums.

Republic was originally a territory of neighboring Arkansas. On November 3,1865, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 338 residents. The first mayor was John W. Poole and the first clerk was Elisha Goode. In 1907, Republic voters approved incorporation into the city of Springfield but this did not take effect until 1908 because republic had no police force to support its growth. In 1916, Republic voters passed a resolution asking for statehood and when that failed to receive approval from Congress they ratified it themselves on December 8th.
