Raytown is a small town in northeastern Missouri, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It lies along Interstate 44 and State Route 168, approximately 21 miles (33 km) east of St. Louis. Raytown is part of the Missouri Rural Health Authority district. The village was founded in 1855 by John Ransom and his family as a log cabin community named Hays Inn on the north side of the river that flows through Raytown. In 1857, the first school was built in what is now the village square and it served students from both local farms and nearby towns until 1961 when it became part of Raytown Schools District #1. In 1912, a sawmill was added to the village; this mill continued to operate until 1984 when it closed because of competition from more efficient mills in neighboring counties. I-44 passing through town: In 1954, I-44 was realigned within boundaries of Raytown making it one continuous highway for all residents of town except for those living on private lots which were still considered “outside” roads or property lines at that time. Prior to this change there were several streets that ran perpendicular to I- 44 including Broadway which crossed over I- 44 just west of town limits into Clayton County before terminating just east of there in Wheatland County – leaving only two long straight stretches running concurrently between these two points – one extending into Jennings County across US 64/I- 44 Business Loop while another terminated near Brushy Creek outside present day Raytown Limits before rejoining I-44 just south of town limits near where Brushy Creek begins today (and runs concurrently with US 64). One should also note that prior to I-44 being realigned most inhabitants had Toombs Street running perpendicular to their homes with business areas located on Capitol Street adjacent to government buildings while other residential strips ran perpendicular onlysideways Hog Lane Rd & Toombs Streets intersecting at an old Arab Market building known as “The Ghetto” later becoming home to many businesses encroaching ontoTOOMBS street such as convenience stores gasoline stations Pizza Place restaruants etc….. subsequently alternate names have been given including Indian Field Road since some Gulf War era memorabilia has been discovered remnants dating back to this time period inside what is now called The Ghetto restaurant
