In the early 1800s, Raytown was a small town in Missouri. It was located on the east side of the river, about twenty miles west of St. Louis. The community was founded by farmers who moved to the area in the late 18th century. The first settlers were from England and Scotland. They arrived in large groups and built their homes near each other on what is now called Old Stage Road. In 1836, some of these same English immigrants decided to move westward and settle in what is now Kansas City. This group of settlers named their new community after one of their own: Raytown,Kansas City, Missouri
Raytown is a small town located in central Missouri. The population was 1,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Raytown was founded in 1836 by Daniel Boone and his family as a trading post on the confluence of the Missouri and Arkansas Rivers. The first store in Raytown was built by Valentine Randolph, who also founded Randolph County. In 1839, Boone donated land to make up what is now Raytown Township. He named it for himself and his wife, Rachel Boone. In 1847, Colonel James Halsey erected a log courthouse here which served as the local government center until 1959 when it was replaced by the current structure. The original downtown street grid from before 1860 has been preserved to some degree with several blocks remaining largely unchanged since then including Main Street (now US-41), Broadway (now I-70), Market Street (now MO-27), Lighthouse Avenue (currently US-60), and Payne Avenue (currently MO-432). Most of these streets were once used as business or residential avenues running perpendicular to each other near downtown Raystown while others such as Main Street NW and Payne Avenue SE continue their traditional routing today but are more commonly used for access to various businesses within the community or as arterial routes linking neighbouring communities. Some key landmarks in Raytown include: -Daniel Boone House museum which houses artifacts associated with Daniel Boone's life and work -Halsey Courthouse which served as local government center from 1959 until 2011 -Museum of American History building currently serving as Scenic Building for Osage Hills Preservation District Incorporated Raytown experienced growth during World War II due to its location on an important synthetic rubber production site operated by Monsanto Co.. With manufacturing moving away from town after that war, raystown lost some of its importance although there are still references to mustard gas production found throughout town today in areas such as Cache Road NE and Business Park Drive SW

Raytown was founded in 1839 by three men, John Ray, James Robertson and Andrew Ferguson. The town grew quickly due to the natural resources it had on its land: coal, limestone, oil shale and iron ore. In 1848, the town voted to become a state capital. In 1865, it became the capital of Missouri after being designated as the capital of Kansas by then-President Abraham Lincoln. The city's growth stopped during the Civil War due to lack of military resources and competition from larger cities. By 1870, only a few hundred people lived in Raytown. However, during Reconstruction in America following the Reconstruction Amendments of 1868 were ratified by Missouri residents at a mass meeting held in Raytown's Methodist Church on February 14th (the same day that General William Tecumseh Sherman was inaugurated as US Commissioner for Kansas), Raytown began to rebound and experienced rapid population growth which reached 1,500 people by 1880. During World War II local industries produced munitions including machine guns and generators used in strategic bombing raids over Germany; however since raytown was located within easy striking range of German targets many residents were forced into hiding or evacuation before war broke out.
