Raytown is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ray County. The name "Raytown" comes from a post office operated in the community from 1871 to 1875. The first settler in what is now Raytown was Andrew Griggs, who arrived on July 10, 1871. In 1903, James Fenton organized a farmers' association and began issuing postage stamps for the town. In 1916, local farmers created a football team called "The Jayhawks." In 1927, townspeople built a new high school and named it after their founder, James Fenton Jr.. That year also saw the first professional baseball game played in Raytown when the St Louis Cardinals played against visiting Memphis Red Sox. When Interstate 44 was built through Raytown in 2005-2007 (the only time I-44 has ever been built through an agricultural area), business owners realized that they would have to move if they wanted to keep up with traffic. They started looking for an alternative way to get around I-44 and came up with plans for what would become known as "The Loop". This loop includes turning off I-44 just past where it meets Route 66 east of town and following old Route 66 until it connects with Ulysses S Grant Boulevard outside of town; then turning right onto Ulysses S Grant Boulevard and continuing until you reach Highway 50 near Decatur. When I-244 was widened into four lanes across its entire length two years later (and still being developed as such by MO DOT), this loop became useless because all four lanes will now be within 1 mile of each other - making it possible for cars to drive down either side of every intersection! Today's businesses include several restaurants/cafés along US 64 which run parallel to both highways; along with other service providers such as ambulances/lab tests./HMOs., pharmacies/, etc.; there are also several mini golf courses (including one open water) scattered throughout Raytown proper as well as numerous parks including Dog Park @ Raytown Lake & Johnson Parkette #2 located just south of downtown onSH 64 between US 64 & Main Street

Raytown is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,527 at the 2010 census. Raytown was founded in 1836 by Percival and Mary Wright of Raystown Township on the eastern edge of what is now St. Francois County. In 1855, it became a town and was renamed after President James K. Polk. It lost its township status in 1907 and has been an incorporated city since 1911. The first settlement in this area was made by French colonists who arrived in 1763 at what is now Raytown as part of the Louisiana Purchase from France. The town site lay near the confluence of two rivers, which made for good transportation and trade opportunities for early settlers who were looking to get away from the heat of Louisiana City on the Mississippi River and from then-British India on the other side of the river. In 1834, three brothers named Prentice, Hargrave, and Manning started trading posts along one branch of the Kansas River east of present day Raytown while others built homes along branches that went west to Fort Leavenworth (now Wichita) or south to Topeka (now Kansas). By 1840 there were over fifty traders operating along these branches with about twenty-five families residing in each post plus several hundred head of cattle and hogs being fenced out on nearby ranches. The arrival of General Ulysses S Grant during his famous Overland Campaign in1862 changed all that; he encountered heavy Indian resistance upriver so Grant ordered his army to cross overland instead and march through central Missouri into Illinois where they would be able to fight off any remaining Indian resistance before rejoining Ulysses S. Grant's army later that year at Vandalia Junction outside Ofokia Landing on the Chicago River where they would participate in operations against Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell across Iowa Territory before returning home once again within twelve months! This event helped spur development within what would become Raytown as merchants began looking for locations more easily accessible to their customers than had been available previously throughout central Missouri including Raymondville (soon afterwards renamed Topeka), Hannibal (later called Springfield), Independence (later called Cape Girardeau), Lamarche (later called Springfield…the list goes on).
