Raytown, Missouri is a small town in far northwestern Missouri. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County seat of Raytown. The community adjoins both Illinois and Kansas. The first settler in what would become Raytown was John Stephenson in 1824. He founded a cabin on the confluence of the White River and Little White River. A post office called Stephensville was established in 1826, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1872. In 1854, James Hininger bought land near present-day Raytown and built a log cabin known as the Hininger House. In 1861, he married Martha Jane Alcorn and moved to his new home. They raised six children there: four boys (John Hininger Jr., George Alcorn, Hiram Skelton), one girl (Martha Jane Hininger Elliott), and one girl (Lydia Ann Hinkle). In 1865, Territorial General Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 100 acres southeast of present-day Raytown from James Hininger for $1 per acre ($102 total). Forrest renamed the area "Frazier County" after General Richard Frazier who had commanded Union forces during the American Civil War. At this time, only about 10 people lived within Raytown limits; most were farmers who grew corn or potatoes for subsistence purposes rather than raising livestock or engaging in commercial agriculture. The early settlers did not enjoy good access to water resources which limited their ability to produce crops or build amenities like churches or schools; they relied instead on rainfall for irrigation purposes. By 1870, however, many residents had invested in improved farming techniques that allowed them to cultivate cotton, tobacco, sugar beets, potatoes etc.; by 1900 all but five of those original settlers still resided within 2 miles of their homes excepting some scattered families westward into Clay County which had acquired title to much larger parcels following Kansas admission into the Union as a state in November 1861 . Many members of these original pioneer families continued to reside there well into into recent times enjoying relatively comfortable lifestyles despite difficult economic times due largely to increased production from enhanced farming practices combined with market demand for agricultural goods exported by Missourians throughout southwestern Kansas

However, during the American Civil War, Raytown underwent significant damage as Confederate forces burned down many buildings in what is now downtown Raytown. Despite this damage, raytown continued to prosper through Reconstruction period until 1870 when it lost its status as an independent municipality and became part of Jackson County
