Raymore is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 579 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield, MO-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Raymore School District serves Raymore and surrounding areas. The town was named after James A. Ray (1809-1881), an attorney and judge who served as county recorder for Jackson County from 1839 to 1867. He also served as justice of the peace for nine years from 1857 to 1861 and as mayor of Raymore from 1868 to 1870. Raymore was founded on a small farm by James A. Ray and his wife, Sarah Ann (née Rader). They built a log cabin in about 1840 and started trading goods with local farmers before starting a grocery store in about 1850. In 1865, they donated land to build a school which became the first public school in Clay County. The school was moved to its current location in 1924 when the original building burned down. After World War II, raymore's economy shifted towards manufacturing although many residents continued farming until the late 20th century due to cheap inputs available from nearby markets.. Manufacturing jobs closed during the Great Recession while new businesses opened up that provide support services like health care or retail therapy services.. In recent decades there has been growth in professional & scientific jobs such as biotechnology or medical technology; however these are not strongly supported by agriculture nor do they contribute much revenue to society

Raymore is a small town in Raymore County, Missouri, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Raymore was Gopher John Clements who arrived in 1819. He and his family were the first to purchase land from the government. They built a log cabin on their property which they named "Clement's Grove". In 1827, Gopher John's grandson Charles Clements moved his family to what is now Raymore and began building a house on one of his grandfather's farms that he named "Clements' Camp". The first post office in this area was established at "Camp Clements" on July 24, 1828. By 1830, Charles had built a frame courthouse which he called "Fenton Hall". This courthouse served as the seat of government for all of this county until it was replaced by the present Courthouse in 1902. In 1836, Emmet Fenton purchased land near present-day Raymore and started farming it. In 1840, he erected a log cabin known as "Fenton House". It served as his home until 1865 when he sold it to George Wickersham who rebuilt it into the current structure which stands today. Wickersham also founded what is now the City of Springfield after selling his farm to become its first resident in 1852. Throughout these years many other settlers came and went including James Aiken who arrived in1850 and built an addition to Fenton House that remains standing today known as Aiken Hall (later renamed Glenn Hine Museum). Others such as William Sanger settled here around 1860 followed by Elijah Milligan in 1863 who founded an flour mill oncurrent site which still operates today under new ownership and operations. The community experienced some Significant Events during these years including: In 1865, when James Aiken died leaving behind considerable wealth & land holdings; In 1898 when Grover Cleveland became President; & In 1904 when Roy Romer became Governor
Raymore was founded in 1837 by John and Sarah Raymore. The town was named after the two families who were the first to settle there. In 1847, it became a county seat and remained so until 1865 when it was moved to Ripley.
