Raymore is a small town in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,551 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Raymore post office was established in 1855, and remained in operation until it closed in 1945. Raymore's first settler was James Waddell. In 1870, Elias Maynard settled in the community and founded the Maynard Navigation Company which ran a wharf on the river near present-day Raymore. The company became Raymore Navigation Company & Shipping Co., Inc., still in business today as an shipping company. In 1881, John Fenton built a house on what is now Main Street near the junction of highways A and B. He named his home "Fenton Manor". In 1903 he married Minnie Hogue and their home became known as "Hogue Manor". Fenton died at age 83 years on October 15, 2002 after a long life filled with many achievements including being founder of both the local high school and city hall; serving as mayor for two terms (1970-72 and 1978-80); chairing the city council for 18 years; member of several civic organizations such as Rotary Club (founder), American Legion (founder), Knights Templar (founder) and Elks Lodge #2738; president of Gateway Bank & Trust Company; director of First National Bank Plaza Drive Homebuilders Association; vice president/chief counselor to Mayor Charles Weems during his time on city council from 1978-1980 In 1951, Jens Jensen started building what would become known as "Jensen's Store" across from downtown Raymore on Third Street between Elm and Maple Streets. Jensen worked with his brother Ole Hansen to get this store open for business on November 24th 1951. By 1959 there were 11 Jensen stores open throughout Johnson County with plans to build more over time The population of Raymore peaked at 2,500 in 1960 but then declined gradually over ensuing decades due to various factors including increasing transportation costs associated with World War II; falling commodity prices that led to increased unemployment rates among rural residents during those years leading to increased migration into larger urban areas within Johnson County during that period; suburbanization within Johnson County resulting in less demand for services available within town limits by people who lived outside town limits or simply did not have access to those services anymore due To these trends some residents moved out while others had their homes enlarged or added onto through purchases or construction projects
