The first settler in what is now Raymore was John Mason in 1837. He named his community after himself and his wife, Rebecca Mason Randolph. The townsite was platted in 1841 by George Hinton and others under the name "Hinton's Mills". The name change followed an ownership change from Hinton to Randolph in 1843. Raymore was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1907. On December 8, 1924, it merged with nearby Rolla to form the current city of Springfield. The Raymore-Rolla Bridge opened on October 24, 1929 as one of two bridges connecting the two cities. It has been replaced by the current bridge which opened on July 1, 2017. In 1951-1952 a campaign called "Save Our Bridges" led by local citizens succeeded in saving both the Rolla-Raymore Bridge and several other bridges within Springfield including the Jeffersonville Road Bridge (now known as US 66), Crystal Springs Road Bridge (now known as MO 65), and Old Route 66 bridge over Big Creek (Now US 71). In 1955-1956 a campaign called "Bring Back Our Streets" failed to achieve much success due to lack of support from local officials and residents alike Despite this setback many initiatives such as linking neighborhoods through bike paths were successful during this time period; these initiatives are still being pursued today

Raymore is a town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,039 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hannibal-Lenoir City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Raymore were three men from Illinois who came to Platteville in 1836 and started a landowning business there. They named their new town after their old home state, Illinois. A post office was established in 1838, and by 1840 the community had about fifty residents. In 1851, a group of settlers from central Missouri began looking for land west of Raymore on the Arkansas River. They found some good land but also bad soil that would not support crops. In 1852 they patented 4 lots near Raymore for $1 per acre (equivalent to $ today). These pioneers founded what would become the town of Raymore on November 12, 1852. In 1861, when Missouri became an Confederate state during the American Civil War, most of Clay County seceded and raymore joined it as a result; however, much of original settlement still remains here including several churches and schools which remain operational to this day (including Stonington Episcopal School), as well as two businesses which continue to serve local residents: First National Bank and convenience store/gas station BP gas pumps are still open today within walking distance of each other! One interesting note about this time period is that women did not gain full voting rights until later in that decade when Raymore's own female mayor took office! One reason for this may have been because most menfolk worked outside Raymore most days anyway with no need or interest in government or politics back then! . . .
Raymore was founded in 1836 by John Ray and his wife Nancy. The town was named for the estate of General James K. Polk, who had donated land to the community. The town prospered until the mid-19th century when a series of natural disasters hit the area; including a flood in 1868 that destroyed most of the town, a tornado in 1875 that flattened much of Raymore, and a fire in 1897 that destroyed most of the downtown buildings. In 1906, Raymore became an incorporated city with its own mayor and council.
