Raymore, Missouri is a small town in central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,589 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia and St. Louis metropolitan areas. Raymore was founded in 1836 by English settlers who named it for Major General Richard Raymond, commander of the Federal forces that fought against Great Britain during the Mexican-American War. The original settler families were farmers and their children soon learned to barnstorm corn crops and raise hogs on their family farmsteads in what is now Raymore Township. They also grew vegetables and raised chickens until 1860 when they developed a cattleraising operation based on local dairy land - this led to annexation of adjacent townships in 1896 followed by further growth until its current size as a city in 2000. Today's Raymore reflects its history and culture with many buildings from that era still standing including one of the first churches in town - Methodist Episcopal Church (later renamed First Baptist).
