The Raymore Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1892 and has been meeting at the old rifle range on S. Jefferson Street ever since. The club currently has over 100 members, including 30 or so who are NRA members. In 1934, the Raymore Rifle and Pistol Club became a member of the Missouri Association of Rifle Clubs (MAC). This organization helped promote firearms safety among its member clubs statewide and served as an advocate for gun control measures in Missouri government legislation. In 1966, the Raymore Rifle & Pistol Club merged with the Harlingen Rifle & Pistol Club to form Harlingen-Raymore Gunclub Incorporated. The club has continued to meet monthly at the shooting range until it closed in 2016 due to increasing membership dues costs. For more than 75 years, this gentlemen’s club enjoyed playing host to muzzleloader shoots on Sundays mornings beforechurch.

In the early 1800s, Raymore was a small town in northeastern Missouri. It was known for its gunmakers, who produced firearms including rifles and pistols. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Raymore became an important marketing center for handguns. Many of the guns made here were exported to countries such as Russia and China.
Raymore, MO is a town in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,566 at the 2010 census. The Raymore post office has been in operation since 1873. The first settler in what is now Raymore was John Fenton. He and his family moved from Tennessee to Raymore in 1836. At the time of the US Census of 1850, only three settlers lived there: John Fenton, his son James Fenton, and their mother Mary Ann Fenton. In 1861, when Jackson County was organized into Johnson County, all of Clay Township (including present-day Raymore) became part of Johnson County under the new arrangement. Raymore had its start as an agricultural community about two miles east of present-day Raymore on the eastern border of Clay Township. A toll road running north to south connected this community with Carthage to the west and Springfield to the east; it was known as “the Turnpike to nowhere” because no one ever built anything along it. In 1872 a group of farmers bought 160 acres (60 ha) around what is now downtown Raymore from JH Stephenson for $2 per acre ($/ha). They began farming this land and soon built a sawmill on a creek that flows through downtown today. The townspeople named their settlement after President James Kansa (1841-1915), who had come through Missouri during the American Civil War and won fame as an expert cavalry general thanks to his exploits at Vicksburg and Gettysburg.(Fenton families are buried at Mount Zion Cemetery.) Howell Weems became mayor in 1931 after serving two terms as circuit clerk; he also served one term as deputy sheriff from 1927 until he resigned due to health problems in 1933.(Weems family is buried at Elmwood Cemetery.) Elected officials for most of these years included six men – three county commissioners and three town trustees – plus one elector who voted by mail.(The last election held in 1965 was nonpartisan.) One wrinkle unique to early Missouri politics: no women were allowed to run for office until 1978.(For more information see "Women Who Shook Early America"). Raymore is a small town located in Scott County, Missouri, United States. The population was 963 at the 2010 census. It is part of the nearby city of Hannibal. The first settlers in what is now Raymore were two families who moved from Illinois in 1836. They named their farm "Montgomery." In 1846, they sold the farm and all its land to James Mott, who built the first sawmill and gristmill in Raymore. The town began as a small farming community with about 25 residents. By 1860, it had grown to 100 residents and developed into a sleepy hamlet with only a few stores and three homes. In 1872, George Clements donated land to the village for a schoolhouse and church building. That same year, President Ulysses S. Grant issued an executive order that designated raymore as the seat of Scott County government. This event helped spur development in Raymore as more people came to live there and learn about local government at hand rather than having to go far away for it. In 1903, when Scott County was renamed Boone County, Raymore became part of that new county too - making it one of only two towns within Boone County that still exists today (the other being Lebanon). Raymore has seen some hard times over the years - most notably during World War II when many locals fought on opposite sides; however, it has bounced back ever since then thanks to its strong economy and friendly community spirit. Today, rayMORE boasts one of the smallest populations per capita in Scott County but also one of the highest median incomes - both factors which have helped make it an attractive place to call home whether you're looking for peace-of-mind or simply some basic needs met such as groceries and sheltering from weather extremes outside your doorstep!
