The post office was established at Raymore on November 2, 1839, by George Fenton. In 1845, John Laughlin opened a wagon shop and general store here which became known as Laughlin's General Store until it closed down in 1904. In 1851, Isaac Pickens bought land at Raymore for $5 per acre and laid out a town square named after himself, Pickens Square. He built four stores and two homes here before he died in 1865. His son-in-law Samuel French took over Picks' business until it failed in 1893. French sold his interest to A C Biddle who founded the Hardware Store Company which continued to operate until 1954 when it merged with Edward Bennett & Co., becoming E B Bennett Hardware Company Incorporated (Bennett Hardware). After World War II many farmers abandoned their farms for cities looking for fertile soil for growing crops; however, many small businesses were still established here such as J Noe's Furniture store which remain open today! One of the more famous residents of this town was comedian Milton Berle who lived here from 1955-1975 when he starred on TV's "The Beverly Hillbillies".

The first settlers in Raymore were James and Betty Green, who arrived in 1837. The town was named for General John A. Ray (1814-1890), a Ulysses S. Grant military officer who served under Andrew Johnson during the American Civil War and afterward as commissioner of internal improvements in Missouri. A post office was established at Raymore in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued by mail on July 1, 1966. In 1847, John Fenton opened a grocery store at what is now the intersection of Main Street and Elm Street in Raymore; he became known as "theFather of Raymore." In 1860, Isaac Hixon bought land east of present Main Street from John Fenton and built what would become Hixon's Store & Garden restaurant/bar which remains standing to this day and has been home to the town's only bus stop since its opening in 1865. Raymore experienced its first real growth when it became an incorporated village on November 7, 1907; with 3 residents per square mile (1/4 acre) compared to 2 residents per square mile (1/8 acre) today. At that time there were no schools or other public services available within reach of most citizens so development proceeded largely through religious organizations such as First Baptist Church which constructed a schoolhouse on Cemetery Road just northeast of downtown Raymore while also providing care for indigent children living near their church property until 1935 when they moved into their own building on Maplewood Avenue northwest of downtown RayMORE Today First Baptist Church continues to provide needy families with free breakfast every morning starting at 6am!
