Raymore, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks region of north-central Missouri. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County seat. The Raymore community began as a small post office on the east side of Missouri in 1873. The first settlers were farmers who moved to this area from Illinois and Indiana. The community name came about because one of the early settlers, John Raymore, named his farm after its founder, James Hinton Raymore. In 1898, an addition to the post office was made when a railroad was built through that area and it became necessary for mail to be delivered both ways between Raymore and St Joseph. In 1912, a new school was built within walking distance of the original post office. That same year saw two other additions to the community: First Baptist Church (later renamed United Methodist) and Second Baptist Church (now known as First Parish). Raymore passed through several significant changes during its time as an incorporated village until it emerged as an active city in 1978 following passage by then-Govan Mayor Denny Crowe of a resolution calling for incorporation into Clay County effective January 1st that year. On November 2nd 1978 City Council voting accomplished what had been proposed but not actually done – adopting Resolution No 15 which designated portion of South Main Street between 9th Avenue North and 12th Avenue North (later East 12th Avenue North) within Raymore limits as “City Streets” with all municipal obligations thereto including public works services being furnished by City Manager/Planner only with no revenue sharing privileges enjoyed by Clay County Roads Department staff members operating along those streets

The first post office opened in 1851 and was called "Peden". In 1865, the name was changed to "Raymore" after Rev. John B. Raymor, who had been a missionary to India and Burma before coming to America to become a Methodist pastor and founder of Baptist church at Raymore. The town site that now stands near present-day Raymore was patented by Mayor James Wetherill on October 16, 1872 as part of section 3 of township 4 north (now east side of I-435). The infant town had no buildings or residents until late December 1870 when the first Masonic Lodge No. 2 met at Libby's Hotel under charter from Grand Lodge F&A No 722 and adjourned to build a hall which they did not complete until January 1, 1871 due weather conditions made transportation difficult so they elected Aldermen Jno Gentry (2nd ward) and Ebenezer Cook (3rd ward) to complete the unfinished work for them with unanimous consent subject only to apportionment among themselves for services rendered during their absence because no one else could do so without disturbing business within their wards while they were away on election campaign ballots nominating new officers for those wards according to state law then in effect see Kansas Revised Statutes § 36-1-401 et seq pgs 101-102 In November 1870 elections Hemanus Waite (4th ward), George Cushing (5th ward), John Purdy (6th ward), Abram French (7th ward) all declared themselves elected members of council but since no Village Register had been published yet we cannot be sure if these declarations were true or if their signatures were just false statements given for political purposes We must assume that all seven members listed above actually served as Village Alderman except Abram French who does not appear on any public document until after his death about 1889 maybe he died young never having served more than 6 months
