The Raymore Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892, the first rifle and pistol club in the town of Raymore. The first rifles were bought for use at a local military fair. In 1893, the club built its first clubhouse. It served as the meeting place for all members of the club until it was destroyed by a fire in 1917. The next year, the club built a new clubhouse which still stands today. The Raymore Rifle and Pistol Club has been hosting annual rifle and pistol competitions since 1893.
Raymore is a town in Carroll County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Raymore area was first settled by pioneer women and their families in 1836. They named their community after President James K. Polk's daughter, Mary Anna Raymore (1812-1876). A post office called Raymore was established in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1904. The town was platted in 1841 by Captain John Hill and his wife Margaret Fenton Hill. The original settlers were mainly Methodists but they soon started to develop a Lutheran church which still stands today on Main Street near the high school building. In 1845, a group of businessmen from nearby Topeka purchased about three miles of land east of the village for $1,000 dollars with the hope of developing it into a new town called "Raymore". The men who bought the land formed the nucleus of what would become known as the "Raymore Land Company" which began cultivating and marketing this land. The first house built on this property was built by Wm Henson on December 12, 1845; it stood off present day Fourth Street between High Street and Elm Street. By 1850, there were over 100 residents living in Raymore; many had come from Topeka because of its growing cotton industry. In 1861, Major General David Harriman donated two acres (0 hectares) adjacent to what is now Second Avenue to establish a public square where justice could be adjudged without fear of being ridiculed or insulted by local citizens or their leaders; Harriman hoped that this square would provide an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come together and discuss important problems affecting their community
