Raymore is a town in Columbine County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St Louis metropolitan area. The town was laid out in 1871 by General James Armstrong and named after his father-in-law, John Ray (1785–1857). The first post office was established in 1872. In 1881 the community consolidated with other nearby towns to form what is now Columbine County. Raymore had a railroad depot until it closed down in 1922. A large coal mine and mill were built in the early 20th century but both ceased operation during World War II because of wartime restrictions on coal production. However, rayon production continued until the late 1940s. Today, Raymore primarily employs Manual labor for its goods manufacturing businesses such as agriculture, papermaking and construction; however some small businesses are still located here including an art gallery and a clothing store. The town also administers two public schools which serve students from kindergarten through twelfth grade along with one private school which serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students only. Additionally there is an independent library located within the larger Columbine Community Library system serving all residents of that community as well as surrounding communities

Raymore is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Raymore was John Hodge on August 20, 1837. Other early settlers included Gouverneur White and his son-in-law Peter Sawney. The original gristmill was built by James Auld in 1841 and operated until it burned down in 1846. A new mill site was acquired on the east side of town by John Tipton in 1865; this mill continued to run until it caught fire in 1888. In 1881, two brothers started a grocery store called the "Three Bears". This store continued to be open until 1951 when it closed because of competition from larger stores. Raymore had its first post office on October 12, 1865 (later renamed for General Ulysses S Grant). It changed its name to "St Francois" on February 14, 1886 after becoming part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The post office moved again to its current location on Main Street in 1951. The Town Council has been meeting since December 1st 1898 and meets monthly except for May asfixed due to State holidays
Raymore, Missouri was founded in 1826 and is the oldest community in the state. The town was named for General James K. Ray of the Union army who fought in the Mexican-American War.
