Raymore is a small town in west central Missouri, United States. The population was 1,514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Raymore is named after John Ray, an early settler and local banker who was influential in developing the community. The village of Raymore was platted in 1871 by James Ayer and his brother-in-law, Samuel Morse. The name "Raymore" has been used since then to refer to both the village itself and to all of its surrounding farms and villages collectively. The first post office in Raymore was established on February 14, 1872, by C J Hofer with the name "New Bellevue". On October 12th of that year, Charles Fenton became the first postmaster under territorial law when he opened a new building located at 501 N First Street. In 1876, James Bache opened a hotel which continues to be operating as a business today called The Best Western Hotel & Casino on Main Street just south of Highway 66 near where Route 64 meets I-70 exit 40A ( aptly named "Bache Boulevard"). In 1886 Isaac Briggs donated land adjacent to what is now downtown for use as a public square; this square still functions as such today. In 1907 Mrs Clara Gaines donated land southwest of town for use as a shopping mall; this mall still exists today as Midtown Mall general store inside of it (formerly Sears). In 1913 Raymond Wray formed what would become one of Missouri's largest textile mills from some 2 acres within what is now downtown Raymore – soon becoming known as Wray's Mill Complex which employed more than 3200 people during its peak years between 1915 and 1929 alone! Over time many other businesses have also sprung up around downtown Raymore serving residents until they too closed or were replaced by newer rivals over time like Square One convenience store across from Interstate 70 Exit 44A currently operates with no connection to history whatsoever despite lying vacant for over 10 years now! The name Raymore originated from a settler named John Raymond who purchased land in this area in 1825. In 1827, the village of Raymore was founded on the site of present-day Raymore.
