Raymore is a town in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. The Raymore post office was established in 1892, and closed in 1954. The town is named after John F. Ray, an early settler. The first settlers to the area were three men who arrived on horseback from Illinois in 1847: Capt George Hargrave, Capt Payson Fitzpatrick and Mr. Smith. They built a log cabin on the present site of downtown Raymore about 1849-50. A second cabin was erected about 1850 by James Tipton and his wife Sarah Goode Tipton; it burned down in 1865 but was rebuilt and used as a hotel until it burned down again in 1902. A store opened near what is now the Raymore Elementary School around 1852 by Solomon Sappington and his brother Amos Sappington Sr.; it moved to its present location about 1870 when Solomon's son Amos Jr., also a farmer, moved into the town with his family. A mill operated here for many years until it stopped working around 1900 due to lack of water resources; however, some evidence suggests that the mill continued to operate until 1904 or 1905 according to local history books! In 1892, John F. Ray founded what is today known as "Raymore" after arriving from Illinois with his family; he became one of the original incorporators of Johnson County (then Randolph County) on July 3 that year.[1] In 1923 2nd Ward Alderman John Wirthman purchased land east of downtown from Mrs Anna Gage Bowen for $3 per acre which he divided into four lots – this land became downtown Raymore which still stands today! Downtown Raymore contains most of the historical buildings from when RayMORE was first settled including both the original Hardeman Store building dating back to 1852 as well as various other buildings throughout its history such as residences (two having been added between 1925-1930), business offices (including two banks during Prohibition), schoolhouses (one dating back to 1875), Methodist Church (built before 1830) and more! The community had seen rapid growth over time thanks largely to its easy access to transportation - beginning with ox carts coming along US 60 which connected downtown with outlying farmlands all around town - plus several farmers establishing businesses supplying goods directly doorstep including flour mills producing white bread made hereabouts,[2] chicken coops/fryer kitchens[3], grocery stores ([4]), hair salons ([5]) and more! Some notable events during this time include St Louis Cardinals pitcher Whitey Herzog playing home games at Municipal Stadium while living nearby[6], First Lady Mamie Eisenhower visiting downtown while her husband Dwight D Eisenhower was president[7],[8],[9],[10] as well as numerous other famous people living or visiting within driving distance either through small towns like Independence or larger cities like Kansas City! This period also saw significant changes for rural Missouri Valley communities going through similar suburbanization process starting off gradually then becoming more pronounced over time culminating in 1960 with Jackson County being formed following Maxwell Field's purchase of much of eastern Johnson County - including much of downtown Raymore - making it easier for people outside those specific areas purposely notto live within city limits thereby disbanding these smaller communities altogether leaving behind only their historic buildings & infrastructure?!?Raymore has experienced some pretty significant changes throughout its nearly 140year history yet never wavers from its core values such as entrepreneurship,[11], community spirit,[12],[13],[14]'s sense of humor"[15]'s love affair with corn dogs' [16]'s annual Fourth Of July fireworks extravaganza"[17] headlined by nationally televised concerts featuring music acts like Bon Jovi headlined by rockstar U2 throughout bracket year ending special days every summer leading up culminating in their very own "Festival Of Lights" Parade held annually on October 15th preceding Independence Day weekend - attracting upwards OF DOZENS OF PEOPLE EVERY YEAR just gentrifying old neighborhoods adjacent!?
